A rewarding scenic 5 hour hike from Rigi Kaltbad - Scheidegg - Burggeist -Hoecheli- Soeren - Chellensack - Gaetterli - Rohrboden - Egg-Gottertli/Schwand to Urmiberg. Start can be reached by Rigi Bahn and the end stop is a restaurant with a wonderful view and a handy cable-car down to the lakeside resort of Brunnen, further down the lake shore from Vitznau. Of course if your knees allow you can descend by a steep path.

The kaltbad to Scheideggg section follows an easy gravel path - formerly the Scheidegg railway line. Its worth taking a detour off this path to follow the cliff paths for views over the lake, namely the Felsenweg and the Seeweg. Bit of a climb at either end of the Seeweg path but the views are your reward. Gaetterli is a convenient stop for some refreshment at the lovely situated cafe there.
This was a wonderful hike and deserves more pictures in a travelogue - please look if interested.

Equipment: good walking shoes, I managed fine in trekki sandals
always a good idea to have map and wet weather gear just in case.
WAter and a picnic is a good idea too
    Definitely take a camera!

    Wissifluh Hike

A shorter hike this time - took the private Wissifluh gondola up to the restaurant of the same name (see transport tip) and then walked down and around to Gersau - resort around the Vitznauerstock hill from Vitznau, that dominates the landscape here. Just over an hours hike. We had intended to go to the other cable-car - Hinterbergen and walk from there (another hour) but the restaurant was closed and hence also their gondola. Both restaurants have great views other the lake and are a good point for starting hikes on the Rigi. Judging from the map the walk from Hinterbergen to Wissfluh is mainly downhill in the trees so I don't think we missed too much - the hike from Wissfluh to Gersau is easy and passes through open meadows (see other pics). The last pic is not the best but shows the top of the small gondola station clinging to the cliff wall!
