The Swiss show great pride in their heros, whether artists, warriors or politicians or whatever. So do the people in Rapperswil. I found several monuments all over the town, commemorating local heros like Franz Josef Greith, musician and composer of the Rütli song (pic1) or politician and member of National parliament J. H. Bühler-Honegger (pic 4). Both monuments are at the lakeside promenade.
There is another one that caught my attention: The monument for the fight for freedom of the Polish people (pics 2 and 3). It is located on top of the hill, right next to the castle. The inscriptions are in Polish and German, praising freedom as highest value. It made me think about our values nowadays ...
