Spaghetteria Little Italy: Italian Restaurant near the ferry dock
After our delayed arrival in Schaffhausen and meeting with Kathrin, the first order of business was to find some lunch. This restaurant looked promising and offered outdoor seating, so we picked it quickly. It turned out to be a very good choice, with excellent pizza and pasta choices and good service.
Favorite Dish: Sara had a delicious-looking ravioli dish smothered in various sea creatures. I had an excellent pizza featuring fresh ingredients. The local beer on tap is quite good as well. Minifrosch contented himself by sharing a few clams and bites of pizza (but no beer!).

Restaurant Pizzeria El Barco
This restaurant is located in a convenient spot at the end of the old town just across the square from the Rhine river ship station.
It advertises itself to serve Mediteranean food and looks very neat. We were there on a Monday afternoon at around 5 pm for pizza. The kitchen doesn't open until a bit later but they serve pizza and salad all afternoon which is very convenient.
Also all pizzas had the price of CHF 13.50 which is a very good price. Service was friendly and attentive. You may pay your bill in Euro, but the rate is not very competitive.
The toilets are downstairs and therefore not wheelchair accessible but across the square there are street-level public toilets.
Favorite Dish: I opted for a Hawaiian pizza as usual. It was quite big and crispy. The only thing I missed where a few herbs on it. There was salt and pepper and chilli in oil on the table for you to use.
So in March 2011 the prices were CHF 13.50 for the pizza and CHF 4.30 for a 3dl bottle apple juice with gas.
Pizzeria Romana: Pizzeria Romana
We visited this restaurant at the end of April 07 and one was able to sit outside in the street. We had a very late lunch here in form of a small pizza each for CHF 15.50 which was delicious. The pizza is made in a wood oven (Holzofen).
Inside the restaurant is the usual Italian style decoration. Service wasn't terribly fast, but since we had time and enjoyed people watching we didn't mind.
Gelateria El Bertin: Probably the best ice cream in NE Switzerland
Not even ten years ago, in 1997, three friends decided to start their own business - first not knowing in what branch they should invest. We are fortunate costumers, that they opened a small emulated Italian "Gelateria". They probably serve the best ice cream in north east Switzerland. Whether you decide to eat the ice cream in the small coffeehouse (7 seats!) or to take away, your stay in Schaffhausen will not be complete, without having tried El Bertins ice cream. Casually you can try their coffee. I don't remeber the brand of the beans, but I do remeber the name of their machine - because after drinking this coffee, I bought a professional machine for my home... a Rancilio.
Favorite Dish: Pistaccio and tiramisu ice cream - accompanied by a real espresso...

No particular favorites. If...
No particular favorites. If you're here solely to visit the Rhein Falls and your tummy suddenly growls (screaming for some food), no worries. There is a good hot dog stand here (just next to the Ticket Booth). It's pretty delicious too. I couldn't quite remember how much it cost but it was definitely lesser than 4 Swiss Francs per hot dog sandwich.
If you're intending to galivant around the Old Town area, there are even more lovely eateries there... from typical Swiss food to some fast food joints. Take your pick!
