Die grüne Fee: La fée verte - abSINthe
"Die grüne Bar" (the green fairy) is Switzerland's first absinthe bar. The drink was banned in 1910 and has been allowed again in 2005 only. Despite being illegal, it has been produced in the vallée des joux for all these years and so expertise has not been lost. The "Grüne Fee" is the place where you can witness the art of making the infamous absinthe.
The bar is cutely designed with green walls, paintings of fairies, cosy little corners for intimate drinks, seats at the window to watch people walk by. And even a nicely decorated toilet - with a sex toy automat in it:-)
You can choose from a wide selection of absinthes and drinks mixed with absinthe. Another speciality are Brazilian "vitaminas", delicious exotic fruit juices and smoothies with fruit like acerola, goiaba, maracujá and other delicacies. Of course mineral water, wine, beer and other drinks are available too.
The bar offers a selection of small snacks also. Delicious is the selection of shrimp fingerfood.
If you want to enjoy some absinthe at home you can purchase a bottle here as well as the typical absinthe accessories like spoons, glasses, tankards with plugs, etc.

SolHeure: ChillOut at the river
A great Chillout Bar/Lounge at the river Aare with good drinks and fingerfood until late. The building is a former slaughterhouse - but don't let this keep you from going there! SolHeure is especially nice in summer when you can sit outside right by the river. Occasionally there are also clubbing events in there. There's an arthouse cinema in the building as well ("Uferbau").
Dress Code: Casual or whatever you like. Also pretty mixed in age groups.

The Hidden: Nights in the barn's cellar
The Hidden is situated in some sort of run-down barn at Solothurn's West End and you wouldn't recognise at first sight that this could be a club at all. But it is and even a pretty cool one. They are not open all weekends, they open for special theme parties (soul, d'n b, electro, ska, etc.). Check the website for party dates. Do not go too early, the party starts at around 1 o'clock, door opening is around midnight. The club has smaller rooms on different levels, some being a dancefloor, some with sofas.
Dress Code: No specific dress code. Minimum age 20, opens after midnight.
