Within 30 minutes brisk walk from the city center you can reach the Goldenberg hill. On top of it you have a lovely view across all of the city and on clear days even on to the alps in the distance. Also, it features a good restaurant with a big terrace, ideal to enjoy the view in combination with dinner, lunch or tea.If you feel like it, the...more

Before going to the Theater we were looking for a nice restaurant in the old part of Winterthur. We found Ristorante Latini, a small and lovely italian restaurant. The menue is mainly italien but with great specialities! I had the Tagliatelle al Padrone with a glass of Cabernet from Chile. Together it cost CHF 25.30. Not bad for Winterthur.more
This is the oldest Pub in Switzerland. My friend who lived there told me they have variety of drinks and excellent food, and recommends everyone to pay them a visit. Unfortunately again, we were there on Sunday morning, and it was closed.I chose bad time for exploring Winterthur, right?more
This is not a restaurant, it is a small but attractive coffeehouse. When the weather is good there is the possibility to sit outside on the street watching people do shopping. They say they make superb cappuccino (hence the name) though I don't know, as I don't like coffee at all. They feature also a good assortment of beer: Try the Chimay but...more
The name says it all. For those who haven't seen the film (me hasn't): The bar is a reenactment of the movie. So the rules are given:Don't touch the girls (Which despite of the name most of the time are not exactly ugly).Don't order water (at your own risk). For students: At thursdays there is happy hour which means cheap prize! The music is Rock, the...more
What makes the Gotthard unique is that it's the only bar in the city that has open 24hours 7days a week. This and its location right at the main station makes it the perfect hangout for the "hope and homeless" so there is a always a bouncer during nighttimes to "preserve the quality of the clientele".Inside there's all kind of people. At daytime...more
This one is fairly easy to find. It's the highest building in town which features the small but cozy and romantic bar on top of it (90m). In the night you can see the neon 'BAR' sign blinking from far away.It is not only a bar but also a restaurant with a very delicious menu that I can recommend. Since there is not much room for tables it might be...more
Trendy, stylish, modern architecture Lounge.Mostly electronic house music, drinks and snacks.A peculiarity of this location (apart from the modern art style) is the huge sofa area at the back of the bar. Huge because your climbing abilities will prove useful when scaling the 1.5m height sofas. Don't forget to remove your footgear! Dress to...more
This Club is huge. Nice interiors. Big Dance Floor, big Lounge area and (Fast-)Food is available.Visitors are coming from all of the canton Zurich and from the neighbouring cantons. It is said that even locals from Zurich-City sometimes leave their favourite safe-heaven to attend a party in the Bolero from time to time. ;)The sound oscillates...more
Kraftfeld means Force Field in German. The name of the bar (as well as its interior decoration) mirrors it's location. It's placed deep inside the old industrial part of Winterthur where ages ago there was a factory for huge ship engines and the like (Sulzer). The area is constantly evolving into a more residential, very modern cultural place. The...more
I went to this theater to see a Korean Dance Performance, which was interesting, but kinda weird. This Theater shows Plays from all over the world: Austria, UK, Korea and many more. I wouldn't call that building a masterpiece of architecture, but as they built it back in 1979 it might have been. At least it looks very nice from the outside. The...more

Most famous for strolling and shopping is the Marktgasse in the old town where all the shops are lined up.
What bothers me most are the dozens of Punks hanging around the train station in Winterthur. Don' t get me wrong here, I like punk music, I don't mind them in general. But it just bothers me when the block your way, sit around, leave their beer botles....
Inside the castle there is a small museum.
But not only the castle itself but also the beautiful surroundings are worth the trip.
The castle is located on a forested hill above the River Töss about 8km in the south of Winterthur.
Bicycle: It makes up for a 25min ride by bike.
Train: Take the S26 to the train station called "Sennhof-Kyburg". From there it's a 25min walk by foot.
When arriving at the Töss, don't follow the street. There is a footpath which goes uphill starting at the old wooden bridge (see map).
All along the river Töss there is places for picnic. The river itself is not very deep but maintains a sufficient amount of water to wet your feet when it's hot.
I went to Winterthur to play cricket in the Winterthur Cricket Club. It was really a great experience.
