This building which housed in the old days the city's arsenal was built in 1487 by Buergermeister Hans Waldmann. In 1926 the present restaurant opened. It is extremely popular with locals and tourists alike. So if you want to be sure to eat there, you should make a reservation (smoking/non-smoking). But if you go early like just before 6pm or a bit after then you may get a table which is reserved for a later time ie 7.30 or 8 pm. Service is fast and food comes pretty fast too, so if you get the table even for one hour only you can still make it and have coffee/desert elsewhere afterwards. The menu is in German, English, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Russian and probably a few more. Just ask! The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. I come here several times a year, actually I have often been here with VTer rebibi and her husband. A word about prices: these are actually very reasonable compared with other restaurants for the same dishes. Quite a few dishes are under USD 20.
I usually eat the same which is my favourite there: Cordon Bleu with Roesti (hash browns). The Cordon Bleu is a slice of meat sliced open and filled with tasty cheese and ham. Leave a Comment

Singapore noodles by yumyum There are several Suan Long restaurants in Zurich. My favourite one is at Stadelhofen railway station. When you come in there is a take away counter with ready made meals or they quickly prepare the dish you order. There are also a few tables for a quick meal. In the back section there is a proper sit down restaurant where you get served. The restaurant is wheel chair accessible although there is not much space. The toilet is not wheel chair accessable as it is up a staircase on the upper floor, but I guess you could use the one in the railway station area.
My favourite dish is Singapore noodles. I've had them in both sections of the restaurant. The spicyness varies. piadina by yumyum The Piadina bar is a very popular place for a snack. The piadinas taste yummy and are freshly made with the fillings you like. There is a lot of take away business but it's also a sit down place where you get your things at the counter. The boss is a native English speaker. I go there several times a year.
Piadina with Parma ham and mascarpone cheese. The cheese will melt and can drip, so watch out! The main reason why I visited Cafe Gloria was the fact that it is a bookcrossing.com zone. Bookcrossing.com is the world's biggest free book club where people share books with the world and follow their paths online. Cafe Gloria is home to a bookcrossing bookshelf where you can take or leave free books. The cafe itself is decorated in an alternative simple 70's style and has big round windows. The furniture consists of sofas and chairs at plain tables. In summer they even have a few tables outside on the pavement. On a Friday afternoon in January 2007 I drank a hot chocolate here. Hot drinks will set you back about 4,20 CHF. They have all sorts of other drinks and hot and cold snacks available as well. This café is the only official bookcrossing zone in Zuerich. As you enter you will find the book shelves to your right. I left two books and found two I fancied reading. I drank a tea, so I can't say anything about the snack or meals on offer. It's a friendly place where you can easily go by yourself and read. There are Moevenpick restaurants in several places in Zurich, but the one by Stadelhofen is well suited after a visit to the cinema opposite or just to meet and have a chat. There are two parts to it. The front part by the windows works as a café and the restaurant is in the back part. So far, I only used the café which has excellent Moevenpick ice cream deserts. Service can be a bit slow and you may have to make yourself known. Also when it is full, then it can be quite noisy in the café part.
Ice cream dishes like the one on the photo. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Goethestr. 18, 8001 ZuerichPhone: 044 261 03 90Directions: Right on Stadelhofen squareWebsite: www.moevenpick.com

The Restaurant Zeughauskeller is located in the fomer armoury of Zurich, whose history dates back to the 15the century. Since 1926 the building is home to the Restaurant Zeughauskeller. The interior consists of large rustic tables and is decorated with remains of the old armoury. The Zeughauskeller offers many traditional Swiss meals based on old recipes; their speciality are all sorts of Swiss sausages (Saucissons) served with potato salad. The menu is available in many languages, including English, French and even Japanese. I visited the place twice in 2007. The first time I opted for the Neuenburger Saucisson and the second time for the Wiediker Roschtbratwurscht (fried sausage). Both dishes were quite filling and very delicious. To drink I usually go for the local Goldsprint beer (0,4 l) which costs 5,80 CHF. Although the place is located in the touristy heart of Zurich, prices seem to be relatively reasonable. Please note that this is a very popular place and therefore it is strongly advised that you make a reservation, otherwise be prepared to queue for a table. In the "elvetino" dining car by Nemorino The dining cars on Swiss trains are now called "elvetino", which I assume is derived from the Latin name for Switzerland, Confoederatio Helvetica, which in turn is derived from the Helvetics, a Celtic tribe who were the first known people to live here before the ancient Romans appeared on the scene. I have a thing about dining cars and always eat in them whenever I can, even in the German ones, which are getting more perfunctory every year.
Had a nice salad here in the "elvetino" on the trip from Zürich to Bregenz. Leave a Comment

One warm evening in late April we had dinner in the outside courtyard of the Restaurant Reithalle. The building used to be the horse stable of the cavalry; therefore the interior and the beer garden are furnished in a rustic wooden style. The horse watering place is integrated as a big flower pot into the nice beer garden which is much frequented by locals and tourists in the summer. The menu consists of a wide range of Swiss and international dishes, including various vegetarian meals. They even have lunch specials. Prices are about average for Swiss conditions. I opted for the poultry skewers with rice and vegetables. The portion was a bit small, but please bear in mind that I had been running around Zurich the whole day and this was almost my first meal after breakfast. To use the tolilets you have to ask the staff for a pin code, as the toilets are located in a passage of the building which is also open to the public.
