"Abduction from the Olympus" (German: "Entführung aus dem Olymp") is official name for popular sculpture on Zurich lake shore or simply Ganymede (this is inscription on statue base). That statues represent Zeus as the eagle who come to carry young and beautiful Ganymede away to Olympus.
Short introduction to Greek mythology - Ganymede was considerate as the most beautiful of mortals. He was son of Tros Phrygerkönig or the Trojan king Laomedon. Zeus feel in love with Ganymede and take him on Olympus and make him immortal.

    Brkliterrasse

The Bürkliterrasse is part of quay area of the city and it was named after the former city engineer Arnold Bürkli. This area was designed as end point of the Bahnhofstrasse and part of the quay. It was build in 1887.
At that time, two large stone lions adorn the terrace (Urs Eggenschwyler). They were removed in 1889 because locals did not like the statues. Since 1952, here is a statue of Zeus as the eagle who carrying young Gannymede away to Olympus. Author was sculptor Hermann Hubacher.
Construction all area around see has important role in the development of the city.
It is fantastic place to visit, to relax under the elms trees or take a boat cruise.

    Burkliplatz Flea Market
    4 more images

Whenever you are walking through Zurich on a Saturday, you should stroll through the popular Burkliplatz Flea Market, especially if the weather is nice.
Here you can pick up every kind of cool things from big cowbell, kitsch jewelry, clothes to antique designer furniture, rugs, pottery and maybe even a wurst.
However, in a lucky case you can acquire real second-hand jewellery as well as other valuable items.
And one more thing, if I may advise you, do not spend your whole remaining time on Bahnhofstrasse, the most expensive shopping strip of Europe!

Open: From 1st of May to the end of October, Sat 8am-4pm

At the lakeside , birds are one of the best entertainers. Just bring some brötli(bread) with you. They will love you for this! :) first they are shy but if they feel they're not in danger, they will come closer and closer. A simple way of enjoying nature .

    Zeus

Burkliplatz is at the lake end of Bahnhofstrasse. It is part of the lakeside park area. This is the figure of Zeus, which is the eagle and Ganymere, apparently being taken up to Mount Olympus.

It is also the place where you can catch ferries to different towns on the lakes.
