Chocolate factory tours, Zürich

Please note that tours at the LINDT chocolate factory are not available.
The chocolate museum is temporarily closed as well.

Instead you can visit the factory shop which is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm, offering a wide range of LINDT chocolates at reasonable pricing.

The Lindt factory is about a 20-30 minute train ride along the lake. However, they do not give official public tours of the factory. They used to have a small museum-like room; however no longer have this and just have store. When I was there I mistakenly walked towards the factory on arriving thinking the museum was in that direction and ended up getting close enough to breathe in the aroma of chocolate.

If you are a chocoholic, and you do not visit Zurich, you will never know what you are missing! No visit is complete without a stop in a shop of the oldest swiss chocolate maker Sprüngli.
Although Switzerland is famous for its chocolate manufacturers, but Sprüngli is the best among the best.
Its location on Bahnhofstrasse is a very popular place of visitors and locals. Here you can buy not only fine chocolates, but you can sit with some delicious pastries, as well. In the meantime you can watch the people strolling by.

One of the many popular products is the fresh Luxemburgerli, a biscuit flavored with lemon, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, raspberry, champagne, and so on. These small pastries seem to be the French macaron but are smaller, lighter and more airy. They are made everyday and are the best if you eat freshly.

These Luxemburgerli, unfortunately, are not cheap. The price for a small box of four biscuits in the always busy ground floor boutique is about five Swiss francs. Upstairs in the elegant Edwardian-style decor café room you can sample these irresistable cake; on weekends, however, the room gets very crowded from around lunchtime until 3 - 4 in the afternoon!!

This would have been a fun tour...if the factory was open! It's closed for renovations until earlly 2006. However, I have heard that the free "tour" is more of a self-guided walk around a room...with an open box of chocolates for all to enjoy!
Very, very disappointed that I couldn't make it!

You can't come to switzerland and not have chocholate. The Lindt & Sprungli chocholate factory, just outside Zurich in Kilchberg, is one of the most famous producers in the world. Not quite Willy Wonka's factory but still enjoyable.

Ok, not quite the same chocolate factory tour as in Broc but it is free (wow, something free in Zurich) and you get to taste chocolate while you are looking at their little chocolate display, and you also get a free little box of chocolate just for going. But the real reason for going on this tour is to go the the Lindt store downstairs of the little museum, where you will find chocolate much much less expensive than in any of the stores. This is what everyone always wants to take home for their family or friends who wanted a Swiss souviner.
