Zurich's flashiest and colorful parade rolling across the city's asphalt with the world's top DJ's on trucks and stages. A yearly event for young and old who loves moving their body or just enjoy as a spectator.

Saturday August 11, 2007
What a crazy way to start our visit to Switzerland, we arrived into the city center to find men dressed as women, men dressed as women who are then dressed as peacocks, a guy on stilts carrying a baby doll on a stick, women in bridal bondage wear, men in bridal bondage wear, Playboy bunnies pushing elderly men in wheelchairs and the Lovemobile parade filled with flat bed trucks undulating under the dancing of color coordinated herd of people dancing to blaring techno music!
The Street Parade is an annual event in August, 2007 was it's 16th year, and is similar to the Loveparade in Berlin/Germany. The festival started at 1 pm on Saturday, the parade started at 3:15, we viewed it from along the lakefront, it's darn near impossible to miss it! My guidebook estimates that about a half million people show up for the Street Parade, Wikipedia puts it at 800,000, in any event if crowds aren't your thing and you think techno music is akin to Chinese Water Torture, you might want to schedule your visit to Zurich for another day.
Lots more photos in my travelogues, go take a look!
once a year only.....Zurich dances again, on 11. August 2007
Love Mobiles (floats) will take off at 3.15 pm colorfully decorated , house and techno sounds and hundreds of thousands of dancers.
The Street Parade shall demonstrate the togetherness of diverse cultures and draw attention to the many achievements of countless cultural movers and shakers in recent years. Over 40 parties before and after the parade transform Zürich once again into Europe's party mecca for the weekend.
You have to visit. The greatest Techno parade in the world. It takes place every year in the first part of August. Streetparade its near the same as loveparade but not at all :-)

After the parade about 100 partys take place in zurich. the greatest one ist the energy party in the hallenstation (this year not in hallenstadion because of reconstruct)

Streetparade Zürich
Streetparade 2002 is coming on the 10th of August!!!
Check out the 2002 Pics online right here on the 11th.
Streetparade is one of Zurich's major events, attracting hundreds of thousands of people each year, mostly in their 20's, to a summer weekend of exceptional Techno Raves. The main event consists of the Saturday afternoon/evening parade of truck-pulled floats playing tens-of-kilowatts worth of high-volume techno, piled with enthusiastic ravers grooving for all their worth, slowly crawling past packed streets lined with equally enthusiastic ravers.
It's a parade of colour, creative costumes, accessories and make-up, with most everyone in a great tolerant mood turning exhibitionist for a day. It's great fun to be there even if you don't particularly like Techno. Supposedly Street Parade has surpassed Berlin's Love Parade in number of spectators, making it Europe's largest techno party. What an event!
Interestingly enough, the Carnival at Salvador in Brazil apparently invented this style of musical-float 50 years ago. There, the floats are called 'Trio Eletricó'. They feature live Samba and Brazilian Rock instead of the canned techno of Zurich (check out my pages on Brazil for some pictures).
My tips:
* Be there in person, close up. Watching the event on TV can't compare to the real thing
* Don't wear ear plugs even though the music may literally blow you away: they'll take away too much of the feel (This is just a suggestion to try out, do it at your own risk of damaging your eardrums, though. I assume no responsibility whatsoever :-))
* Mythenquai at the beginning of the event is my favourite location to be. The crowd is not as dense as further on and the light is good for taking pictures.
* It's practically guaranteed to be hot/warm: wear light clothes and drink enough (water).
DURING THE STREETPARADE, THERE'S 1 MILLION OF PEOPLE DANCING IN THE STREETS OF ZURICH!!!!!!! MUSIC IS IN ALL THE CITY! STREETPARADE 1996
WITH PASCAL, A FRIEND OF GENEVA, WE ENJOYED CHANGING THE COLOUR OF OUR HAIR! THAT WAS THE MINIMUM REQUIRED FOR THAT OPEN AIR PARTY!
Thirty colourfully decorated floats, noisy house and techno sounds and hundreds of thousands of dancers have helped this demonstration for love, peace, freedom, generosity and tolerance to evolve from underground event to major public spectacle with 1´000'000 participants. The parade route wends its way along Zürich’s lake basin via Bürkliplatz and Bellevue, to end at Hornbachstrasse.
More than 40 parties before and after the parade, throughout the weekend, will again make Zürich Europe’s party Mecca.

A party you will never forget!
The street parade is the biggest event in Switzerland and get bigger year by year. In the year 2000, 750’000 people were in the streets of Zurich to join this parade. This event is for free and can be joined by everyone.
Street Parade in August. Thirty colorfully decorated trucks, loud sounds of house and techno music, and hundreds of thousands of ravers. This year (2004) it will take place August 7th.
