Good spot to relax in park, to get some catchy views over Limmat, to get away from the busy streets... makes for nice photo session with some parts of Zurich behind your back, or just for taking rest under trees on this little hill upon the city, Lindenhof, whose traces of inhabitation can be found in ancient history, since Romans, whom used this place first (one may notice the replica of the Roman tomb by the side in the corridor before reaching the 'peak'). Untill today it remains significant green area of pocket size whose importance is both historic and cultural. Sound of sparkling water from the fountain, pigeon drinking from, kids playing around, others sitting on benches or just taking walk in this secluded shelter... it makes good sense for visit not only for the views.
We stayed at this tram station (tram stop) for some time while waiting for a tram to the place in 'our district', on a holiday night, after midnight sometime - I wouldn't probably have come here if we weren't around with our friend who lives in Zurich, who knows where are right stations and how the night time travel works and so you by 'accident' get to meet some interesting modern creations and architecture - and you will find it a lot in Zurich; this tram station at Limmatplatz is fine example that good architecture design (combined with good functionality) can be applied at such public places shared with any user. One can notice the difference between ordinary and creative - it makes for a better value of the public areas.
I loved trees and skyline (whether dark or day) are inseparable 'part' of that building, how expressive their messages shared with users and viewers - an organic within geometric, live among stable construction, man-made vs 'natural'... I guess everyone has its own story what she sees in it and its many interpretations are thrilling component of a quite simple, everyday thing - a tram stop.
I am open for more suggestions from people who will read this tip to point me into directions where there are more such creative, functional public places within your own city.
I took one of the several cruises available for a trip around the Lake.
That would have been a better option if the weather helped a bit more. Still, despite the cold and grey skies, it's a nice way to relax and enjoy some nice views of the lake.
Behind the ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) is a terrace called the Polyterrace in honor of the ETH's former name Polytechnic.
On a clear day you could no doubt see the lake and the nearby hills and some faraway mountains, but I was happy just to see a bit of snow of the roofs of some of the old buildings.
My favourite view of Zürich is the one from the terrace of Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule/ETH (Swiss Technical University), also named Polyterrasse. The wide modern terrace in front of Gottfried Semper's ETH building is situated on the steep hillside above the Dörfli, high enough for a view over the roofs but close enough to the old town to see details of the buildings and steeples.
Hint for photographers: Visit the terrace in the morning for best light. Around noon and in the afternoon you'll be facing backlight. Sunsets are also nice from up there.
This is an excerpt from Douglas Scott, an author from my website
"The diversity of the landlocked, mountainous country is the essence of Switzerland and gives the country its unique identity. Still, it is best known for its financial institutions, fine cheese and chocolate, watch making industry, for its scenery and an excellent network of public traffic"

When you are in downtown Zurich, take a leisurely stroll along the river Limmat. Stop every now and then to take in the beauty of the calm river and the occasional boat that passes through. The river is clean and is crisscrossed by many bridges.
