Zurich has a modern, spacious and very convenient airport.
To/From
To go to/from the airport choose the train. Trains run between Zurich main station and the airport every 10 minutes during peak periods (travel time: 10 min.). There are regular direct intercity and interregional rail connections to all the main towns in Switzerland and neighboring countries. All timetable under Swiss Railways website.
Gates
There are three gate zones at Zurich Airport. Gates A and B can be reached by foot. The Skymetro departs in 3-minute intervals to bring you to Gates E (Intercontinental flights) in just 2 minutes. About the merto, I am still wondering why they call it sky??? see photo 4 to understand...
Transfer time
Swiss recommend a minimum transfer time of only 40 minutes. If you are arriving in terminal A or B and leaving from there no problem. If you must go to the terminal E (international flight) you need to take the skymetro may be you must maybe allocate more time, but I never experience any delay due to overcrowded hall. "Unique" Zurich airport is currently oversized since Swissair bankruptcy so enough room for you.

Unique bar...
Unique Airport has probably the longest lounge bar in the airline world, with a length of 28.6 metres, which offers you a fabulous view out over the airport and its bustling operations. Located in the Swiss lounge (see my photo 2).

Zurich is very well connected to the world with a lot of airlines operating at Zurich airport. Swiss (who have recently been aquired by Lufthansa) has their main hub in Zurich from where the operate flights all over the world. It is a specifically important airport for flights from Europe to Africa where Swiss has a strong presence.
The low fare carriers Air Berlin and Flyniki also operate many flights from Zurich to different cities in Europe.

This is Switzerland's main entry point. There are many international flights to several continents from this airport. Trains connect the airport not only to Zurich, but also all over the country from the station under the airport. To get to the city center, it only takes about 15 minutes, so there is no reason to take an expensive taxi. Often, there are airline fare sales to Zurich, which could at least make the flight over here an affordable option.
Geneva is another international airport serving the country, but Zurich (ZRH) definitely has more flights.

Zurich Kloten is the largest airport in Switzerland. Swiss, the home carrier, and many international airlines connect Zurich to the world. The airport is just a 15-minute train ride from the main station and there are frequent departures. The train station is located below the terminal and easy to find, just follow the signs. Buy your ticket at the ticket counter or the ticket vending machine before boarding the train. Taking a cab is more expensive and slower.

Getting to Zurich from Paris is better by Air, as alternative mode , train would take you about 7 hours. A direct flight from CDG Paris to Zurich is about 55minutes.
I always prefer SwissAir to other airlines on this route.
This picture was taken, when the plane was making an attempt to land in Zurich. You could see the wing extention for preparation to land.

You can get to Downtown Zurich by Taxi, Train or Bus.
I would recommend to go there by Train. It's the cheapest and probably fastest way. Go to the Train Station in the lowest floor of the airport.
You can buy your ticket at the vending machines or at the counter. Just get a ticket to Zurich (ZIP Code 8000) for 2 hours (one way) or 24 hours (return), depending on your further plans.
It takes about 10 - 15 minutes to Mainstation (Zürich Hauptbahnhof) and there is a train every few minutes.

Even though Zurich Airport has a very high airport fee, there are a few Low Cost Carriers flying to Zurich:
Easy Jet from London Luton and Gatwick
Germanwings from Cologne
SkyEuorpe from Bratislava, Budapest, Brno and Vienna.
And there are also some cheap airlines with fixed prices for all seats:
Germania Express from Alicante, Athens, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Lisboa, Palma, Saloniki, Vienna
Helvetic Airways from Alicante, Brussels, Malaga, Marseille, Naples, Nice, Palma, Prague, Rome, Valencia, Venice, Vienna.

I paid full fare this time, it was not a discount airline, so I was disappointed to say the least..
When flying to USA, my flights are 9-14 hours and I can't believe that they charge for meals on a regular flight.

At 11 km from town, you will find Zürich's gateway to the world - the airport Zürich-Kloten - one of the biggest and most efficient in Europe and, at the same time, one of the safest in the world. The train ride from the airport to the centre of town takes only 10 minutes.

There are many airlines which land in Zurich but I have personally been with only Singapore and Thai Airlines, both giving excellent service. Sometimes it can be tricky landing into Zurich as it it has many mountain ranges and not always is it clear.
