This is a wonderful old structure that is being used today as the Seat of the government of the District of Laupen.
The origins if this castle are from the 12th Century...and like many "towns" that started as fortifications in the region have the Dukes of Zähringen to thank for they're construction...
There is no charge to access inside of the compound....but honestly there isn't really much to see other than the view of the surrounding countryside...and the construction itself...the stonework used to build this marvelous structure is quite something to see...and in fact the "feel" of being here and seeing this is fun...
Note the post and beam construction in the third photo...and in the background the fountain providing even today fresh cold drinking water!
As I mentioned in the Intro page...."the Achetringele" ceremony that happens on New Years Eve actually commences here at the castle...The boys that are participating in this event actually meet at the castle and then proceed down to the village.

Laupen is a really pretty town and warrants more time than I gave to it...I could easily spend a day here or maybe two....just enjoying the peace and quiet...no crowds of pushy tourists...at least when I was visiting....Im hard pressed to imagine crowds here ANYTIME...
This small town is well worth spending time in...
