We stayed at a hotel called Les Sources. This is the river behind Les Sources that gives the hotel its name. There is a trail leading behind the hotel and follows the river up into the hills. I walked up into the hills one afternoon and had a great time. This area was seemed so different after being in the cities of Bern, Basel, and Zurich.

You are in a remote village high in the Swiss Alps. You find a small church. Now who would be the patron saint of this church? This is St. Bernards Old Catholic Church. I really was amused at first when I read the sign. But then I thought about where I was and it all started to make sense.

We had one rainy day while in Les Diablarets. The rain and the clouds gave an entirely different feel to the village. I walked around in the mist and clouds and had a completely different impression of the village.

Les Diablarets is surrounded by a glacier where all of the winter sporting events take place. We went to Les Mazots one evening for a dinner. Les Mazots is at the top of one of the ski lifts in Les Diablarets. From the top you can look over at the mountains and the glacier. Its really a beautiful location.

This little chapel sits on a hill overlooking Les Diablarets. There is a small garden all around the chapel that has samples of plants from all over Switzerland. You can walk throught the garden and read about the various plants. There was a very modern sculpture of the Holy family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph on the hill with the chapel.

Walking and hiking are two of the most popular activities in the village. There is not a lot of other things to do. But the hiking trails are beautiful going up into the mountains. And the small streets through the town give you many wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. I can honestly say I did not get bored here. When you have so many natural things to see and do you do not need other types of entertainment.

This is the entrance to Les Diablarets. In the winter Les Diablarets is a bustling ski resort. In the summer it is a quiet little village with a small convention center attracting small conventions for the summer months. This entrance is a couple of blocks from the train station. The village is very small and very remote as I was told. The village sits below a large glacier which has skiing and all kinds of winter recreation. It reminded me a little of Murren Switzerland, except there are cars in Les Diablarets.

The gardens around the small chapel gave an excellent view of Les Diablarets. With all of the hills and small streets the view of Les Diablarets keeps changing as you walk.

Notice the little dancing devils on this shed. Almost every house and shop had this village symbol on it.
