This is more a curiosity than a cultural thing, but I liked it so much I had to take a picture of it.
I noticed this plank that goes from a window to street level, and it looks very much like a ramp placed there to be used by the house cat to go in and out. However there is no cat-flap there, so I suppose the cat taps on the window pane to make someone open.
It must be great for cats to live in this village with no cars, their most dangerous enemies.

You'll occasionally see helicopters flying around the valley. They do this to practice for rescues. If you just won the Lotto, you can probably ride along on a sightseeing tour.
If they ever have to come to rescue you, you will be both grateful and broke. You will be charged for the rescue.

This is a great place to visit, and my impression is that it must be also a great place to stay, if you want a quiet holiday, surrounded by impossibly beautiful landscapes.

Murren is so lovely and it is sitting on a ledge, 2000 feet above Lauterbrunnen Valley and surrounded by majestic mountains.
