After about 2/3 of our exhausting hike on the Rigi Mountain, we thought that we deserved a break. The Hotel Restaurant Klösterli, which is usually closed on Mondays, was open by way of exception on this sunny fall Monday. The menu usually offers a selection of traditional Swiss hearty dishes.
We took a seat on the large outdoor terrace and opted for Meringue glace, which is a dessert made from whipped egg whites and sugar. For 9,50 CHF it was reasonably priced and yummy.
The history of the Hotel Restaurant Klösterli dates back to the end of the 18th century, when it was called "Hotel Restaurant Zum Ochsen" (The ox). In 1775 even the German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe stayed here for a couple of nights.
There are several self-service and other montain restaurants. As everywhere prices of soft drinks etc. are a bit higher in the mountains.
