The pic shows Compatsch and Laret, the first (lowest) Swiss villages in the Samnaun valley seen from above Spiss when walking from the last houses of Spiss a few minutes into the valley of the river Malfragbach.

Virtually nobody in the thousands of cars drivng daily up to Samnaun stops in the Austrian part of the valley with the village Spiss (yes, all have to stop at the Austrian EU Customs checkpoint, of course, and will be asked to declare their duty free purchases). The Austrian part of the valley has clearly more sunshine hours than the Swiss part because it is fully at the slopes directed to the South - and it offers very nice and easy but sometimes long hikes on which you might hardly meet other hikers but plenty of grazing cows in Summer - and no Duty Free Shops, of course.
