A musst for every traveller: A Swiss Army KnifeA few facts about it: - The knife the soldier gets in the army isn't red but silver, and doesn't have a cork screw (wich is one of the most important tools on a good pen knife!). - To get a original: Look out for these makes: Victorinox (my favorite) and Wenger- If you compare prices in different shops you possibly can find the same knife much cheaper. - When flying don't take the knife with you in your hand lugage. - A good knife (for me) needs to have: A big blade, a small blade, scisors, can opener and a cork screw. All the other features only make a knife big and heavy Of course it depends on what gimmicks the knife of your choice has got. A good Knife with all the musst features will cost about CHF 30.-- to 40.--

In Switzerland there are more than 450 different cheeses to eat and try. A few examples: Emmentaler, Appenzeller, Sbrinz, Vacherin, Gruyère or Tête de Moine. Therefore the Swiss make a lot with cheese like Fondue, Raclette.

This shop is the headquarters of the Schweizer Heimatwerk, which was created to preserve local craft traditions in Switzerland. Everything for sale in this shop (and the others around the city, including one at the Hauptbahnhof) is guaranteed to have been made in Switzerland by Swiss artisans.They have a shop at the Zurich airport as well. There is a wide variety of items here - clothing, tableware, items for childrens, and a lot of things decorated with the Swiss flag or Edelweiss. The prices range from reasonable to very expensive.

Would not advise shopping

Gstaad is really very tourist orientated , you will find everything swiss, and gimmicky, but also very expensive, so I would leave the shopping and do it in Berne or Zurich, where there are also street markets.

ONE OF THE FASCINATING TIMES OF BEING IN BERN WAS AT CHRISTMAS A FEW YEARS AGO...AND THERE WERE NO PARTICULAR STORES..BUT ALL THAT I WENT INTO WERE FUN TO SHOP...A DAY TO BUY SHOES MADE IN SWITZERLAND AND A JACKET TO COMPLEMENT THOSE SHOES, AS WELL AS NOT HAVING BOUGHTEN A BEAUTIFUL STUFF TEDDY BEAR WITH A MOUNTAIN CLIMBER'S HAT AND SHORTS ON HIM.....BOY DO I REGRET NOT BUYING THAT BEAR..AS I REALLY WANTED TO TAKE HIM WITH ME... A YEAR LATER I DID GO BACK TO FIND THAT THAT STORE NO LONGER EXISTED ...I WAS BUMMED!!!! SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE BEAR WHEN I SAW IT AT FIRST. .A MEMORY SOMEWHAT SAD!!!!!! THE THINGS YOU LIKE MOST..IT MIGHT BE IF YOU DON'T BUY THEN..YOU MAY NEVER FIND THEM AGAIN !!! THAT BEAR WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT $25.....

World's best chocolates

I guess chocolates are the only thing which are not expensive in Switzerland. So how can you miss delicious world's best chocolates? You can't get this quality any where else in the world so buy as much as you want. I bought five large packs of 2.5 kg total costing just CHF 7 ( US $ 6 appox ) from Migros in Bahnhofstrasse. Off course, Chocolates from yourself, friends and family. No bargaining here. Prices are fixed.
