This market takes place every Friday from 4 pm on the big square in old town. There you can buy local specialities like bread, cheese, dried meat and of course white wine. The locals seem to gather there for a chat sipping some wine. There was also an ice cream stand and most importantly a raclette stand.

If you have never eaten Raclette cheese, then you should taste it here like the two VTers MATIM and VonDutch did.
Raclette is a special cheese that easily melts without separating itself into grease and other bits. As you can see on the photo no. 2 it is melted under a special heater and then the melted layer is scraped onto a plate with potato and gherkin. If you like you can sprinkle additional seasoning on your raclette like pepper or paprika powder.
You can taste it at the farmers market for CHF 3.50 (in July 07 - it's a bargain!) or in a restaurant.

You can find these typical storage houses all over Wallis/Valais. They stand on four legs and the legs have round rocks on them, so that mice and other vermin cannot reach the storage facility.
Note also the typical "Schiefer" stone roof.
This storage house is located right behind the St. Martins church.
