Café Dahinden describes itself as "Bäckerei-Konditorei" . But is a very special one.
Established over 100 years ago in a former mill it has now been owned and run by four generations of the same Dahlinden family.
Thirty years or so ago the old building was replaced by a new shop and cafe on the shores of Lake Lucerne.
During summer months you can enjoy refreshments on the terrace as the water laps and flows with the passing of boats. The cafe has its own dock for visitors who arrive by boat.
But we were there on a chilly April day with low clouds and were glad of the warmth inside the cafe at the end of a walk. We paused long enough to admire and drool a little over the window displays before finding a table inside looking out over the terrace and the Lake.
Inviting warm snacks are available at lunch time as well as salads and sandwiches and a great variety of sweet pastries and cakes. We had home made pizza, delicious cheesecake and the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted.

Lake Lucerne is Switzerland'sone most famous lake, well known all over Europe and overseas. What began in 1837 with a one steamship operation has grown into the largest, most successful cruise system in Switzerland with 5 nostalgic paddle steamers and 15 elegant motor vessels. They operate daily and year-round - in fair weather and foul. The fleet provides ideal connections to mountain railways, trips to Swiss historical sites and links Lucerne with the famous holiday villages along the lake..

This is the Riviera Bus Route! This regular bus service links practically the whole of the northern side of Lake Lucerne. An hourly bus service enables you to travel right along the lake towards Brunnen or Schwyz, as well as in the opposite direction to Küssnacht am Rigi.

Lido Bus

The Lido is a part of Weggis and it would be hard to imagine Weggis without it! The Lido bus provides a trolley-bus-service between Hertenstein and Weggis from spring through to autumn.

Several lake steamers (tel. 041/367-67-67) depart from Lucerne for Weggis every day, requiring about 45 minutes for the transfer.

ON THE FERRY TO WEGGIS

Favorite thing: The lakeside resort of Weggis is on the sunny side of Mount Rigi, one of three holiday centers (Vitznau and Gersau are the others)
