Berlin

by travelfrosch

Visiting a re-united Berlin is certainly an experience. Once again the capital of Germany, Berlin is an amazing combination of sights, sounds, and experiences. Stroll through the Brandenburg Gate, which once separated East and West Berlin. Check out a cafe on Unter den Linden. Get lost in the immense department store, Kaufhaus des Westens. Visit sobering historical sights at Checkpoint Charlie or the Holocaust Memorial. Cap it all off with nightlife unlike anywhere else in the world. One disadvantage: Berlin is a rather long distance from most of the German tourist destinations in the southern and western parts of the country. However, with the high-speed ICE trains, discount airlines, and overnight trains, there are a number of ways to get here that won't dent your budget. For more information, check out VT's Berlin Travel Guide.

Stockholm

by travelfrosch

One of the most pleasant cities in the world, Stockholm is actually situated on 14 islands. The water all around makes it a delightful place to stroll and explore. Sweden's capital also has an excellent public transport system which can whisk you just about anywhere in the city by subway ("T-Bana"), tram, bus or boat. When you come, you can visit the warship Vasa, wander around the island-park of Djurgården, enjoy the Skansen open-air folk museum, and take in the spectacle of the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace. The one disadvantage: accommodation is very expensive here. The good news: there are a number of money-saving options available to you, including excellent hostels. You can also take a luxurious overnight ferry to Helsinki, which allows you to explore and sleep more cheaply than you would in the city itself. For more information, you can take a look at my Stockholm page,...

Rome

by travelfrosch

The unquestioned capital of the Western world in its day, Rome has no shortage of magnificent historical sights from the Roman Empire, from the Colosseum to the Pantheon to the Roman Forum. The downside for some: modern Rome is an intense city, with lots of traffic, pickpockets, heat, con artists, noise, crowds, and apparent chaos. But with patience, common sense, and an open mind, travelers will find Rome one of the most rewarding destinations in Europe. For more information, you can take a look at my Rome page, or check out VT's Rome Travel Guide.

Barcelona - The Bold and the Beautiful

by aussirose

Last destination on our big Europe holiday was Barcelona. Bet you are wondering why I called Barcelona the Bold and the Beautiful? Well you are going to have to click the link below to find out ;o)I would have to say that the tourist bus is the only way to see Barcelona as the city sprawls over a wide area and there are lots of interesting touristy things to do. The Gaudi architecture was my favourite and the buildings that we saw from the top deck of the tourist bus with nice ornate wrought iron trimmings were just lovely. The time spent here was just not long enough to do everything .... but what we did see really made hubby and I enthusiastic to come again.Barcelona

EXPLORE THE SIDE STREETS

by travelgourmet

Travelling through Europe or settling in one village, town or city visiting only the major sites and tourist zones is cheating yourself of the wonderful world of Europe. Walk a neighborhood. Listen to the baby cry, the pots and pans being used, the delightful aroma's of local foods being prepared. The language being used in questions, anger and delight. The sounds of laughter and the rhythm of the music. Now you begin to be in tune with Europe.

Valencia - My Favourite City in Spain

by aussirose

Valencia was a total surprise to us. Both hubby and I loved Valencia! This diverse city has so many things to see and experience from great food to old decorative buildings, to new amazing architecture, to a white sand beach, to a stunning lake to friendly locals. Sadly we just didn't allow enough time to check out this fabulous city! What made our trip extra special was vt'er Mahesh (MaheshSamtani) who took the time out from his busy job to pick us up and show us around. Without Mahesh we would not have experienced the best that Valencia has to offer. All I can suggest here is that you click the link below to check out the full story .... and I hope it helps to make up your mind to visit this beautiful Spanish city!Valencia

Ronda - Majestic Bridge & Stunning Views

by aussirose

Hubby wanted to experience the South of Spain countryside as he had heard that it is a mixture of hills, greenery and arid type landscape. Hubby was looking forward to giving his flash camera gear a good work out :o)Well after doing some research on vt, I stumbled across this little village of Ronda on top of a mountain with a bridge that was some 100metres high that expanded across one side of the town to the other. Well we had to see that! :o)If you are travelling southern Spain, then you must stick this place on your itinery! We enjoyed our day immensely! And as you can imagine if you check out my Ronda page.... hubby's camera certainly got a real good working out! :o)Ronda - South Spain

La Alhambra - Decorative Palace & Lovely Gardens

by aussirose

La Alhambra was one of the hilights for hubby on our big Europe trip as he studdied the gardens here in his Diploma of Garden Design. The use of gardens, running water and fountains in amongst ancient Arabic Architecture and tile work is what makes this place one of the largest tourist destinations in the world. So much so that thousands visit each day and you need to pre-book your tickets.I would certainly recommend that you visit here but I would have to say that I enjoyed the gardens of Monet and the Marjorelle Gardens in Marrakech better.La Alhambra

Torremolinos - Popular Beach Village Sth Spain

by aussirose

Spain was hubby's choice in our Europe trip. Hubby wanted to see the Alhambra in South Spain so we based ourselves here in Torremolinos, hired a convertible car, primed the Tom Tom GPS and hit the road :o)Hubby was also looking forward to driving in southern Spain so when I suggested we hire a convertible car, hubby was as excited as a pig in poo!! :o)Torremolinos was nothing special to us. Coming from Australia we are pretty spoilt when it comes to beaches..... but we were quite happy with the place that we stayed in which was recommended by quite a few vt'ers who regularly stay here. I'm glad that we chose Torremolinos for the fact that it is not too far away from Malaga airport (we arrived from Morocco) and also it is central if you want to visit Alhambra north and towns south such as Mijas and Ronda (also recommended).Check out my Torremolinos page for an overall picture of this nice...

Paris - City of Love

by aussirose

Paris was my first choice of places to see in Europe. I had been looking forward to visiting Paris since I can remember and it was everything I had expected and more!My only regret was only seeing a portion of what I wanted to see. I didn't even see the Arch de Triomph!! I have so many fantastic memories and I won't write them all down again here, but I really encourage you to check out my Paris page on the link below. I am sure my entertaining stories will bring back happy memories to those of you lucky enough to have experienced the same and if you have not been to Paris, then I hope that after reading my Paris page you will want to go :o)Paris - City of Love
