There is a belief, that disciple Andrew preached in this area of Crimea in the I-st century. Next to village General’skoe there is a remains of old Basilica near the spring. We took a tour because it’s impossible to hike there without local guide, it’s up the mountains through hidden mountains paths. The tour is not expensive ,so It’s wise to pay for a tour and you also can see a water fall Jur-Jur. It’s very picturesque view, and every 100 meters the temperature drops on 1degree C if you go down to the fall .The silver streams of running water falls from the high of 15 meters right in a middle of mountain forest.
A little bit further to the sea shore there is a wonderful museum of Sunk ships and worldwide marine tragedies .They show short moves about each tragedy there. It’s very interesting and worth visiting, on top of the museum there is a beautiful church in honor of all who suffered and died at sea.

    Mountain Demerdgy
The most beautiful mountain in Crimea (1356m). The famous Soviet times comedy “Caucasian captive” was made there. Dgemerdgi means “Blacksmith“. The valley of hosts is located there, the locals say If you stare at the mountains shapes they start to move. I didn’t see it though I tried .In 1894 there were a big earthquake that made a chaos of stoned at the foothill of mountain and buried a village under them, maybe that’s way it got the name “ Valley of hosts”. We went hiking there and had a picnic, that was fun .Also there is old fortress “Funa” with a torture chamber .Inside the walls there was a Christian church that was built during the fortress restoration in 1459 and named after Theodore Stratilat. It was destroyed by Turks in 1479 .In XVI century it was restored and had services till 1778.

    Aquarium
Aquarium is very small ,2 tiny(aquarium wise) rooms , but collection is worth watching. The area is small but they have a crocodile there and marine life from many different locations. Upstairs they have terrarium that reminds a private zoo, where you can pat an animal if you lucky to come at the feeding time. A half an hour is more than enough to explore both floors.

There is a big beautiful church in Alushta ,that makes the city even more beautiful , thanks to efforts of Count Vorontsov and successful project of architect Torichelli. New cathedral in gothic style, that reminds by its construction village parishes in England, was blessed after Theodore Stratilat in 1842 and started to function .In 1964 it was closed and the building used for a club. Nowadays it ‘s the restored functional Orthodox Cathedral where beautiful services are served .

    medieval tower

    by js77 Written Dec 23, 2005

Medieval tower built by Byzantines in 6th century. Although it's not in the best condition and the sight could be better if there's no homes at 2m distance from tower, it's worth seeing once you are in Alushta.

    Being lazy on the beach

What else you would do if going to a sea resort (especially with no flashy discos etc around??). The beaches are fairly good, and the sea is cleaner than in many other areas of the Black Sea.

The weather is generally good, with few rains in summer (I have not witnessed a single one), so your holiday will not be spoiled by weather.

In recent years, popular beach entertainments have become available, so you will not be bored to death either:))
