East or west, taxi drivers are the same

Taxi are private bus drivers in Crimea will try to rip you off at all occasions possible, first, because you are a tourist and second, because the Crimea tourist season is just three-month long, so they are trying to save for other nine tourist-free months.

they are especially inventive at the airports, train and bus stations. they can tell you the amount of money to pay, but forget to tell you currency. so at the moment when you think you owe them UAH 50, it could turn $50 or 50 euro.

Unique Suggestions: if you prefer to take a taxi, be prepared to bargain. whatever they tell you, insist on paying a half. the price will be still high enough so the driver will be in profit anyway.

Fun Alternatives: otherwise, take a public bus/ marshrutka, which are very efficient and frequent means of transportation in/around Crimea, not mentioning that it is dirt cheap - UAH2 for a ride within a city; UAH 15-30 for an intercity ride. see my transportation tips for getting from Simferopol to anywhere in Crimea.

McDonalds

Unique Suggestions: Okay, every once in a while on a long trip overseas you want a taste of back home. They've got a McDonald's in Simferopol and it's located next to the train station.

Fun Alternatives: There are tons of other cafes and restaurants in town. At least don't make this your main eatery.

Simferopol is not much of a tourist destination in and of itself, many travelers pass through the city – or at least the train station – on their way to other places in Crimea, which not a bad idea.
