There are several night trains Kiev-Simferopol. Also AeroSvit flies this route, best to check locally for better fares. A day train (fast, "Express") runs Dnepropetrovsk-Simferopol.

The mashrutkas (carpool vans) are the quickest way of getting around town other than in a taxi. They serve destinations all over the city in specified routes, but only stop when a passenger asks. The trolleybuses are also useful, but much slower.

Marshrutnye taxi, or "route taxis", are the little minivans you see speeding around town. Although you can signal for them to pick you up almost anywhere, I would suggest getting on and getting off at the major squares throughout town. Each one should have a piece of paper in the window with a route number and a list of major stopping points along its route. The fare should be 50-75 kopecks (10 or 15 cents, currently) and you pay the driver. If you're seated next to the driver, it's not uncommon for other people to hand you money to give to the driver and also the change back. When it's your time to get off, just tell the driver "ostanovka" (ah-stan-ohf-ka) and he'll pull over.

There are a lot of taxis around town, just look for them parked at major squares throughout the city. My advice is to use the regular public transportation (trolleybuses, vans) unless it is late and you want to get somewhere in a hurry. Quick runs shouldn't be more than a dollar or two. You can pretty much get anywhere in the city for less than 4 or 5 bucks.
