Livadia Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • On the slope of Mogabi Mountain, on the place of the South coastal Crimean forest in the beginning of the XIXth century the landscape park was created.
The palace has a lovely large gardens, a highlight of which is the "sunny path", running about a mile west from just below the palace to a lookout over resort area "Oreanda".

The park of 126 hectares was laid out in the early XIXth century in the landscape style by the gardener Delinger and boasts 400 species of trees and shrubs, original Rose, Tsar's and Turkish summer pavilions, an 80 metres long pergola of roses, wisteria and wild grapes - the longest in the Crimea.

Nearly 400 kinds, varieties and forms are represented there. You can see a giant sequoia, a blue atlas cedar, a deodar cedar and a Lebanese cedar, cherry-laurels, large-fruited strawberry trees, Crimean pines, Pitsunda pines, wisterias etc... There are several skillfully made fountains in the park. Everyone cannot but stop near the fountain with Arabian ligature "Livadia".

Spring water is flowing with continuous stream from the lamb's mouth and tourists can slake their thirst. Aside the sea pergola extended from the palace. Pergola is finished by 8-angle platform with metal carcass framed by roses. The park arbors are not alike: Rozovaya, Tsarskaya and Turetskaya with blue cupola.

    Livadia Museum
  • Tip Rating:
  • Today the palace houses the Historical Museum and Picture Gallery.
In February, 1945 Livadia Palace was meant to play the essential part in the world history…. The memorial exposition "the Crimean (Yalta) conference of the heads of three countries – the USSR, the USA and Great Britain" tells you about this memorable event. You will visit two floors of the Palace - main halls of the ground floor (a festive dining-room, reception-rooms and billiards-room) where the famous Yalta Conference took place. In the palace there was a president residence of the United States of America of F.Ruzvelt.

The rooms that used to be the imperial personal rooms have the exposition “Romanovs in Livadia”, which tell about Russian Emperors three generations staying in the palace.
Several private rooms of the first floor (a study, a library, children's class room, a family dining-room, etc.) are also included in the excursion.

    Livadia History
  • Tip Rating:
  • Livadia Palace breathes with history during last 150 years.
It was Livadia which is situated in three km west of Yalta that put the Yalta area on the maps of both Russia and the world.

It happened first in 1860 when the imperial family started building here. Nikolay II dreamt to live here after his abdication… After the October Revolution and Civil War a sanatorium for peasants was open in the former imperial palace. Later, in 1931 it was transformed into climatic medical combine.

Then it happened second in 1945 when in the White Palace the historic Crimean Conference of the heads of the three allied powers of the anti-Hitler coalition, Joseph Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill was held on February 4-11. The main world leaders met to re-draw the map of Europe at the end of the war. "The Declaration on Europe liberation", the decision on creation of the United Nations and other documents have been accepted there. This conference had an important value for the destinies of the world.

After the Victory, the palace was the summer residence of Soviet leaders where Stalin, Molotov and others used to come. Then again it was a holiday centre replaced by a museum in 1974.

I've been to Livadia twice. First in 1967. I could only admire the Palace from outside. It was closed for visitors that time. Second in January 2007. It was unforgettable visit! I advise you to touch the history of this magnifitiant place. It makes to think over something what we miss in everyday's liafe.

    The Great Livadia palace
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Great Livadia palace is the main sight of Yalta. It’s a former summer residence of last Russian emperor Nikolay II. Livadia Palace and park are world famous. The White Livadia Palace was constructed to be a summer residence of the last Russian Tsar, Nicholas II.

The palace being ordered by Nikolay II was erected under the project of the remarkable Yalta architect, academician N.P.Krasnov. It replaced earlier royal dwellings and used much white Crimean granite in the process. It is built in Italian Renaissance style with beautiful Florentine and Arabic courtyards. It impresses even now with the perfection of the shapes and the refined decorations.

The Palace ensemble, besides the Great palace, includes a case of retinue, a palace of minister of a court yard of baron Frederiks, built simultaneously with the palace, a palace church in the name of Erection of the Fair Cross, constructed in 1872, and the Italian court yard.

Gates of internal Italian yard, as testifies N.P.Krasnov, "of Italian work, in 1750 brought from Verona", instead of made by Ural smiths. You will also see the west part of the Palace - the Bell Tower and the church of Exaltation, which was built by Alexander II.
