The statue of the famous Ukrainian poet, Taras Chevtchenko, honors its memory in the center of Cherkasy.
Born serf of P. Engelhardt, March 9, 1814, in Moryntsi, Zvenyhora povit, region of Kyïv. Dead March 10, 1861 in St. Petersbourg, Russia. Until the XIX th century, the Ukrainian art was influenced a lot by the European styles. Taras Chevtchenko, painter, engraver and famous poet, introduced a new style of realistic paintings representing life and the Ukrainian landscapes then. Taras Chevtchenko is one of the first writers to have written in Ukrainian. Member of a looking for movement to free Ukraine of the Russian ascendancy, he was deported in Siberia.

Cherkasy is edged downstream by an immense beach along the Dniepr, very large to this place, because of the dam on the stream.
In summer the beach is very popular, and some water sports are practiced...

The new building of the Post office, in the center of the city, shines one thousand fires in the sun of in the evening. This new Post office has been inaugurated at the end of the year 2002.
