Visit Kiev. a wonderful town!...

by highlife

Visit Kiev. a wonderful town! you donnot believe you are in the former USSR. if I would be sleeping and waking up and see the city, the buildings and someone told me, good morning here in Madrid, I would believe it!;-))))) In Kiev I was surprised about the very high price level.first of all I read noncense in internet about taking a taxi from Borispol airport to Kiev city. it told me that a taxi would cost about 50 USD, the trip takes an hour, with bus it is cheaper but takes 2 hours.in reality I made following experience:for this 40 km the bus costs 10 hry (2 $), the taxi drivers prolonge 70-90 hry (14-18 $), but we got a deal with the driver to accept 30 hry (6 $).at mcdonalds we had breakfast for two for 8 hry (1,60 $), in city at a cafe they prolonged 12 hry (2,40 $) for a cup of coffe cappuchino. we drank it somewhere else for 4 hry (80 cents) for two persons.a teacher earns as...

Get out of Kyiv. But more on...

by Syoma

Get out of Kyiv. But more on that later... People. There is no substitute for real, live relationships, and Ukraine is the place to have them. Unlike the more developed countries, relationships are the priority that people invest time in. While it shows up the lower quality living conditions, you have to admit that living richly and friendlessly quickly becomes tiresome. People of all ages will frequently spend time just strolling together or sitting outside on a bench chatting. I'm not what you'd call a sanguine people-person, but I do enjoy getting to know people. After all, it only takes so long till your sick and tired of playing computer games, watching movies, TV, etc.My fondest memories are of the four years I spent in a little city 80km south of Kyiv and of the friends I have there.

Black Sea Riviera As you can...

by vairab

Black Sea Riviera As you can see on the map, Crimea is almost an island - only a very narrow isthmus, and two causeways connect to the Ukrainian mainland. Roughly the size of Vermont, the northern half is flat and agricultural with a dry, continental climate. The southern half is dominated by a rugged mountain range reaching 1,545m. (5,000ft,) which creates the Mediterranean-like climate of its southern coast, the most popular vacation destination for Russians and Ukrainians. Crimea has a rich history. Inhabited by early Scythians, it became a Greek colony about 400 B.C. In the 13th. Century the Tatars, came with the Golden Horde of Genghis Khan and established a Khanate at Bakchisarai, where some of the old buildings are still to be visited today. Conquered by Catherine the Great in the 18th. C. the peninsula became increasingly populated with Russians and Sevastopol became the major...

Ancient L'viv is a history...

by vairab

Ancient L'viv is a history textbook in stone. At present it is an open air museum city where each street is a living legend. Kniazha (Prince's) Mount hovers over the city as a whitnes of the ancient times. From here one can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of this unique West Ukrainian city with its masterpieces of architecture. One will be able to visit one of the most beautiful in Europe Opera and Ballet theater, Holy Assumption Cathedral, Bernardine Monastery, St. George Cathedral, Our Lady's Fountain, Market Place, St. Peter and Paul Jesuit Cathedral, Latin St. Mary Cathedral and the Bohims' Chapel, familiarize oneself with the treasures of the National, Ethnographic and Folk Crafts museums, Open Air Museum of Folk Architecture and Traditional Village Lifestyle, Lychakiv Cemetery Reserve. The charm of L'viv, special atmosphere of its cafes and beer bars create the feeling of...

visiting most popular cities in Ukraine, like: Odessa, Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk. Ukraine is very beautiful country with great nature. Here is many forests. In Odessa we have Black Sea. I like it so much, couse it's so deep and warm. When you visiting Ukraine, you absolutely must try ukrainian vodka- 'gorilka'. It's better than usually vodka, couse it made from natural products and head don't hurts on the next morning.

Medieval Kamyanets-Podilskiy

by IngaA

Kamyanets-Podilskiy (I can imagine how difficult it can be for foreigners to pronounce it... :))) is the small medieval town in the south-west of Ukraine, in the region bearing the name 'Podillya' (down lands). His rich history remembers periods of Ukrainian, Polish, Russian and Turkish domination. There is an old fortress in the centre of the town, where a lot of battles took place in the past. However, it was never drastically damaged and the town itself was rather 'given' form one power to another, with a town key, peacefully. That's why the historical places and monuments did not suffer and now tourists can enjoy the sightseeing. The town's rich history remembers periods of Ukrainian, Polish, Russian and Turkish domination. There is an old fortress in the centre of the town, where a lot of battles took place in the past.
