This warning or danger tip isn't just specifically for when Ivano-Frankivsk but for any market or busy town area within Ukraine. Be aware that if you see anybody that you think could be following you around the market that smells of alcohol to keep well away from them. Pick pockets around this area usually smell of alcohol, this may be rubbed onto their shirt or they would have drank some before entering the market so it is on their breath. They will pretend to be drunk and to bump into you but this is an excuse to get close enough to you to pick your pocket. A gentleman was trying to do the same thing to our family at a market but luckily we had been briefed on this by our interpreter and we moved away when we saw that he was close by and we left with all of our belongings and all of our money.
It is important to stay aware and to stay vigilant when driving on Ukrainian roads. You will find that inside of the big towns and cities the roads will be smooth and very safe but on the rural roads outside of the cities most roads you will see pot holes and cracks which can easily damage your hire car if you are not careful. Again, this is not a warning for Ivano-Frankivsk in particular but for around the country in general.
The roads in Ukraine are generally not very well lit which is all the more reason to remain vigilant when driving.
