Pub crawls is the best way to spent an evening in Kiev. FreeTours organizes pubcrawls on Thursdays and Fridays. It includes entrance to several pubs, english-speaking guide and a glass of local beer. The price for the tour USD 30 for individual or USD 20 if minimum 4 persons group.

menorca you are right, here in kiew extremly high percentage of girls are in the clubs, who only want drinks and fun for a night. So better look for your money here, as in other cities.

To river Palace I must say: Only go to this place if you want to meet whores and loose money with drinks. But Its cheaper to go directly to these gilrs without River Palace! So I found this club awful! No athmosphere there, because the club is small and no one likes to dance (only the whores!)

i should say i know really quite a lot about the night scene here as i went out practically every night for like 2 months and became .. lets say acquaintances with a lot of people that work there. the first thing to say is "face control" you have to look or dress good to get into most places, it's not about race or anything personal, i'm asian. as soon as they know you are foreign people will try to milk you, dont be flash with your money , there's no point. some places like arena hire girls to hang around and flirt with you, i knew a lot of them personally.
patipa is a great place as the staff are very friendly . but the crowd can be mixed.
security everywhere will never give you problems if you are not rowdy and are not disrespectful to them. tipping wins you favours with the staff, but again be careful , they may try and milk you. crystal hall and dlux are now the best top end clubs, dlux is too big , crystal hall has all the big shots and girls looking for such types.
be careful of girls as most just want free drinks and they can be very very flirtatious. if you are interested in a girl, you can just tell if she genuinely likes you or not.
arena club used to be great but it has lost its appeal with clubbers. the best place at the moment is vodka bar , staff are very friendly particularly security and the place plays awesome music , the crowd is totally unpretentious, and there is no entrance fee at the time of writing. these days in the clubs there tend to be more guys going out than girls, whereas before i remember it used to be 70 % girls, some nights it's still like this.
river palace is a club where a lot of working girls go, in fact all of them are working girls, it's still a good place to go to admire pretty girls and chill out. it's common to smoke hookahs in clubs.. be careful of taxi drivers they will always charge you more.. but it's usually not expensive if you compare it to london.
oh disco radio hall is great if you are looking to hang out with a more mature crowd and professionals who are also natives and most women there are not after a rich guy, just out to have fun
oh for the top clubs you usually need to pay 150 to 100 of their money unless you know people who work there. drinks range from 60 to 100 depending on what you get.

This like many nightclubs in Kiev is distinctly Rascist-I visited this with my Indian friend & was schocked that he was turned away & for him this was the second time it had occured. After the first incident the owner(a Brit) promised him it would not happen again.
It did & as we debated with the doormen as to the reason he was not allowed in(they didn't stop me) & asked them if it was because he was 'chornie'(dark) the policeman who arrived answered positively.
Nopw with a name like the Carribean club you may think that rascism would not be an issue but it is.

The nightlife in Kiev downtown is a kind of strange. It's hard to find the right places if you don't know some "insiders". And the level of prices in nightclubs and outdoor restaurants are high for many local people.

The streets in the downtown are filled with people in the nights (especially Khreshchatyk Street). They are walking around drunk with their beer bottles. Apparently no problem since I didn't see any disturbance. But is it allowed to drink alcohol on public places in Ukraine?

Go to Route 66 in Kiev its great fun and the live music was superb. It also has a pool table and table football which is ideal for teaching the local VT members how to play or was that the other way round..? Haha

there are several nice places to go salsa dancing in Kyiv. El Asador, Carribean Club and Khameleon are probably the most popular. very informal atmosphere, great music. both places offer dance lessons. The styles include New York, LA and casino, and casino rueda. There is a slight shortage of male partners, so if you are male and good dancer, you will have a lot of choices :)

Salsa nights at El Asador are on Sundays. Salsa nights at the Carribean Club are every day. Salsa nights in Khameleon are on Fridays.

P.S. El Asador has been closed for the year now. so the Carribean Club is the only choice now(Feb. 2009).

Dress Code: dress comfortably, it tends to get very hot there :)

if you meet a girl in kiev and you ask her to see her other time she allways tel you yes and when you call her she allways goin to meet you for dinner and make you pay a very spencil dinner and afther you ask her to go fo a disco and she say ok but i must tel my friends
so in the disco she ask for many drinks after the friends come and you pay for all the drinks becoso you think you goin to get her and after the big bill they just say bye bye
