Kyiv, Vydubetsky Monastery by Dialing Vydubetsky Monastery was founded by PrinceVsevolod, the son of Prince Yaroslav the Wise and father of Vladimir Monomakh, between 1070 and 1077. The monastery controlled the ferry across the Dnipro River. Many of the best scholars of Kyivan-Rus lived and worked in the monastery. Among them, chroniclers Sylvester and Moisey, made a great contribution by writing "The Story of Bygone Days". Only a few churches of this monastery have survived over the centuries. One of these is the Church of St. Michael. The Monastery acquired its present appearance in the 18th century when the five-domed St. Yuri Cathedral, Refectory, and Bell Tower were erected in the Ukrainian Baroque style. You will not be disappointed with your visit to this interesting site located next to the Central Botanical Gardens at 40 Vydubets'ka Street. Take trolleybus 21 or 31 from Kontractova Plashcha or bus #3 from Metro Druzhby Narodiv and go to Blvd. Druzhby Narodiv, near Paton Bridge, then take a short walk along Naddniprians'ke Highway. Kyiv, Mariinsky Palace by Dialing Mariinsky Dvorets (Mariinsky Palace), 1750-1755. Named in honor of Czar Alexander the Second's wife, Empress Maria, this beautiful blue-and-cream palace is similar in style to the imperial summer estates in St.Petersburg. This building was designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, Empress Elizabeth's favorite architect, and built under the direction of Moscow architect Ivan Michurin. It's a lovely mixture of Ukrainian and Russian Baroque. Before the 1917 Revolution, the palace was used as the residence for viziting members of the imperial family. Today, the building is used for official state functions and is closed to the public. 5, Hrushevsky Street. Take trolleybus 20 to Mariinsky Park and then walk past the Supreme Rada (Parliament) Building. Leave a Comment

You know Goethe but never heard of Bulgakov? They have much in common. The great Ukrainian novelist Mykhail Bulgakov (1891-1940) grew up on Andrievskij Uzviz (in Russian: Andrievskij Spusk), and set his Civil War novel 'The White Guard' on it. Yet he became world-famous with his surrealistic novel "The Master and Margarita" that takes place in Moscow casting a light on the weird life during the early Soviet era and the contradictions of the Stalin times. binocular vessel in front of Rzhyschiv museum by om_212, 1 more photos Take a day trip outside of Kyiv to explore the ancient Trypillian culture. Trypillya civilization has been discovered by the archaeologist Vikentiy Khvoika in 1897. it has flourished on the territory of Ukraine between 7,500-4,750 BC. Some scientists, including Khvoika, believed that Trypillians were ancestors of all Slavs, others that they there migratory Arrata tribes. Trypillians settled along rivers, including the Dnipro midstream. They were traditional tribal agrarian culture. The Trypillia people, in addition to farming and animal breeding, knew metalworking, weaving and pottery. The civilization has produced a complicated symbol language, which was reflected on their pottery. The similar artifacts have been discovered in Cucuteni in Moldova and Rumania, so the culture is often called Cucuteni-Trypillia culture after the towns where finds were first excavated. On my last trip a local friend of mine wanted to show me her favourite place. A place to find tranquility and ease of mind. You may ask me, why do you seek these places, why don?t you want to party and have some fun? - Well, I can tell you, I have lots of fun usually and I like to stroll the streets and visit restaurants and pubs. But there is some time when you should accept that you must cool down in order to regain your balance. Some people use to practise Yoga or Thai-Chi, some simply read a good book and others walk a forest and listen to the birds sing. (text removed) Leave a Comment

Pushcha Voditsya, Kyiv by Lensa Great place to relax, built your fire, bake potatoes, swim in the lake and just enjoy the nature! Take a tram number 12 from Kontraktova Ploshcha, Podil. It's about 1 hour ride by tram, for only 50 kopiyok. You'll be amazed that nearly half the way this tram goes through the forest. A lot of times it's very packed in summer, but it takes you straight to the place. You can also get there by mini bus "marshrutka" or by car. Leave a Comment
