In December 1995 a small osteria appeared by the famous Golden Gates of Kiev, in the very heart of this ancient city. Pantagruel, the name of the osteria, came from the main character of "Gargantua and Pantagruel", a book by a famous Renaissance writer Francois Rabelais (1490 - 1553). Pantagruel the giant was a cheery fellow with an appetite as large as his own massive size. A spirit of Italian cuisine by the real food virtuoso Costantino Passalacqua prevails in the osteria. Well, although Ukraine is not an obvious destination for the true fans of cucina Italiana, Pantagruel's homemade pasta and risotto might prove to be a nice little wonder then, and impressive wine list will be just adding that crucial touch to the overall picture.
They say that the name of a place, much like a person's own name, helps to determine its fate. It is sure to be true for the osteria: people do like eating and having fun here. Bona appetit! :) Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: US$31-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 1 Lysenka st.Phone: 228-8142, 229-7301Directions: Near Golden Gate, metro station "Zoloti Vorota" (Golden Gate), and quite close to the main street - KretshatikWebsite: http://www.pantagruel.com.ua/

 | | | | Puzata Khata (Bulky House): if you are on budget and/or like home-style food | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
even if you are sceptical about fast foods in general, you may be surprised to find that many Kyiv fast foods actually serve not only tasty, but nutritious and healthy food, often freshly prepared. cozy eateries with the Hutzul-style interior. During the “rush hour” (dinner time at the universities and offices) the Khatas are overcrowded. Standing for a while is worth the wait – you’ll be able to enjoy meals that truly resemble home-made food. The chain’s restaurants, as a rule, have a bar section, where you can order something stiff to drink, and a cafe, where you will find all possible kinds of pastry, cakes, fresh fruit juices, tea, and coffee beverages.
I always go for borsch (the correct ukr. spelling of a red-beet soup known in most courtiers as borscht) with pampushky (home-made bread rolls sometimes toped with squeezed garlic) for the fist course; holubtsi (cabbage rolls, dolma-style), varenyky (dumplings with different kind of fillings - meat, potatoes, cabbage) or mlyntsi (crepes) for the second course, you can also have varenyky or mlyntsi for desert if you chose them with sweet fillings like sweet cheese and raisons, or cherries (depending on the season) Theme: OtherPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: 1/2A Baseyna; 15/4 Khreshchatyk; 24 SahaydachnohoPhone: 380-44-246 72 45 (on Baseina)Directions: Puzata Khata locations can be found near the busiest metro stations: Khreshchatyk, Kontraktova Ploshcha, and Petrivka.

Budmo, hey! (Let's be/Cheers!) The first thing which comes to write... No, that's not what I should say. Excellent interior design, live music and splendid atmosphere. Impressive menu :) - btw, also in English for the best selection of Ukrainian dishes, i.e rulety, halushki, meat filets shoudl i continue :), and diversity of famous drinks as well. By the way, vodka is in Ukrainian "gorilka" and also 40~ thus rather wines :)
Start with very tasty bortsh - of course :) with "pampushki" (rolls) and sour cream; then - absolutely right choice - meat/fish shashlyki, and then if you would be able :) - vareniki with cherries.
