  • Osteria Pantagruel: Consistently delivers

by flando Written Jan 10, 2010 3 reviews

We've been in Kiev twice since May, both times we've eaten at least twice here. Never ever had a complaint. Service extremely courteous & accomodating and food of a consistently high standard. Summer allows outdoor dining either at their terrace OR they also run a smaller operation at the local fountain. Winter in Kiev doesnt allow this!!!!! Recommended

Nice in Summer to sit on the Terrace, eat and drink and watch the World go by. Like most places in Kiev,White wine is Expensive, my Squid has Fish bones on the batter, suspect it was cooked in the Same pan as my Partners Fish.
I Would give it a second chance.

Pantjusha in front of Pantagruel restaurant

There will be a comprehensive review on Pantagruel restaurant after my next visit to Kiev. Sorry for not providing something more precise here in this tip but I felt I should place another picture of Pantjusha the cat here, that looks towards the restaurant where it has once lived for many years...

For the story and details on the monument please consult the "Must See" category under "A document of love - A monument to Pantjusha" Here is the link

Favorite Dish: Only during daytime I have had a snack (an espresso and vareniki with cherry filling) with a friend on the central terrace in the middle of Zoloti Vorota square which also is part of the Pantagruel restaurant.

Italian restaurant, delicious Italian cuisine, good wine, convenient location, during summer you can seat outside and enjoy the view to the ancient Golden Gate and a small park. Italian chef will cook for you.

Favorite Dish: Very unique spaghetti I tried here is black one with seafood sauce.

Pantagruel: For Italian fans in Kyiv!

    Kyiv, Pantagruel Restaurant

In December 1995 a small osteria appeared by the famous Golden Gates of Kiev, in the very heart of this ancient city. Pantagruel, the name of the osteria, came from the main character of "Gargantua and Pantagruel", a book by a famous Renaissance writer Francois Rabelais (1490 - 1553). Pantagruel the giant was a cheery fellow with an appetite as large as his own massive size. A spirit of Italian cuisine by the real food virtuoso Costantino Passalacqua prevails in the osteria. Well, although Ukraine is not an obvious destination for the true fans of cucina Italiana, Pantagruel's homemade pasta and risotto might prove to be a nice little wonder then, and impressive wine list will be just adding that crucial touch to the overall picture.

Favorite Dish: They say that the name of a place, much like a person's own name, helps to determine its fate. It is sure to be true for the osteria: people do like eating and having fun here.
    Bona appetit! :)

Pantagruel: Cosy Tavern near Golden Gate

    Come in please :)

The menu is mostly "european", if can say so. Very diversified, from salads to fried beef or chicken.
And good wine of course (how can I forget my reputation, lol)
