The Funicular runs from across the street from Poshtova Ploscha metro station up the very steep hill to Myhailivska square, the area behind St Michailskyi monastery.
It was closed for renovation during my visit, otherwise are the working hours from 07.00 to 22.00 everyday.

The funicular was constructed during 1902-1905, and was first opened to the public on 7 May 1905.

After dinner, I took a short walk around the hotel and it's environs. I came across the funicular and took a trip both down and up. In fact I caught the last car of the evening.

Located behind St Michael's Cathedral and is fairly cheap to travel between the upper and lower parts of the city.

For 1.5uah you can take the funicular up or down the hillside, from St. Michael's Monastery to Podil.
It is a very short ride but it is fun and the interior of the funicular station is very pretty.

It is always busy - but not packed and runs from 6:30am until 11pm.

    Funicular

Kiev’s Funicular (cable car) is a great way to break up all the walking that you will find yourself doing in Kiev. The first time I had ridden a Funicular or even heard the name before was last year when I was in Budapest. The Kiev Funicular is about a 2 minute ride between Michaels Monastery (upper entrance) and Poshtova Ploshcha (lower entrance) where you can see the Dnieper River. From early spring to late fall, river boats operate on the river.

    The Funicular

The Funicular (cable car) was built in 1905 and until now it offers quick, exciting and inexpensive rides from Podil (Lower Kiev) up to Mykhailivska Ploscha (Upper Kiev). The ride is short (about 2 minutes) but it is worth seeing a magnificent panorama of Kiev and the Dnepro River that uncovers from the Funicular. The cost is the same as the fares in city transport except Sundays, when the ride is free.
