    Mother of the Fatherland Statue

The Motherland statue stands tall and can be seen in most places in Kyiv. Built in 1981 the stainless steel statue is roughly 203 ft tall. At the time of the statue being finished it was the tallest statue in the world and is even smaller than the Statue of Liberty in New York. Beside the statue is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War.

    Mother of the Fatherland

This huge monsterpiece known as the "Mother of the Fatherland" overlooks the Dnieper River. With outstretched arms, one holding a shield, the other a sword featuring a cut, rugged face....looks more like a Russian tour guide. The stainless steel beast of a statue weighs in at over 560 tons. It has caused some continuing engineering problems due to the weight. The locals refer to it somewhat derogatorily as Babu.
