Old windmill on the vast Pirogovo Museum territory

This is something unique. Pirogovo is a huge territory of about 1 square mile (1.5 sqkm) where from all over Ukraine original ancient buildings have been brought and rebuilt again. For everybody who is interested in Ukrainian life of the past with emphasis on how the ordinary rural population has lived this is a must see.

A lot has been written about this Museum, and the only thing which I can say is:"Do not miss the opportunity to see this piece of heaven, putting in your pocket two camera films at least to capture these wonderful moments of your life.”

Open air museum for regional architecture and folk art of the Ukraine
Here you can see buildungs from the different areas of the Ukraine. There are about 300 buildings, larger and smaller, in this 1.5 km2 area. They are placed thogether according to where they come from. So you almost take a walk through those different regions of Ukraine.
In some of the buildings people work and live. And they love to tell the visitor about the history of the building and about the arts and crafts, they are demonstrating.
And for the musically interested visitor there is a good opportunity during the summer month, to listen to and watch folk ensembles from different parts of the Ukraine. Maybe you are lucky and can come there, when they have their annual festival.
You also can visit the restaurants and enjoy some of the regional cuisine.
Also, if you want to buy some folk art gifts, here is a great opportunity
