ST Andryivski Church is one of the more beautiful churches in Kiev, in my opinion. It was built in 1754 by the same architect, in fact, who designed thr Winter Palace in St Petersburg!
The church is built on the spot where the first settlement of what is today's Kiev is thought to have been founded.
I was not inside this time.
At the top of the street that give the church its name is the beautiful St. Andrew's Church..The striking blue and white building with green, Russian style turrets was constructed between 1747 and 1754. There are some foundation issues that cause concern. It is used as a backdrop for many brides and grooms as part of their wedding pictures.
At the top of Andriyivsky uzviz (or Andrew's descent) is his church! It was built in 1754 by the same architect who designed the Winter Palace (St. Petersburg). He was an Italian but this is tradition Ukranian style - a cross-shaped church with 5 domes.
At the time of my visit I did not go inside - the building was crawling with builders who were repairing and sprucing!
One of the many gorgeous orthodox churches in Kiev.
Take a trip to check it out and then you will end up spending 1/2 of the day shopping for all kinds of trinkets - paintings, ukrainian trinkets, clothing, medals, and so on
There is a legend saying that in the place of the Dnieper River was a sea in the old days. When St. Andrew came and put his cross in the place where the church stands now, the sea regressed, leaving just a small remnant (the Dnieper River) behind. That's why the church doesn't have any bells because their sound would wake the water up, which will flood Kiev eventually.
This beautiful baroque church has been founded in the 18th century in order of Russian Empress Elizabeth, who wanted to make Kiev her summer residence.
This masterpice of local architecture is really worth seeing! Even if you don't like visiting churches, this one should be an exception for you; its iconostasis is really beautiful.

The construction of this elegant church was primarily idea of the empress Elisabeth Petrovna in late 18th century. Its baroque style (though modest in scale) easily refers to the palaces of St Petersburg and not by mistake, as the architect was the same: Francesco B. Rastrelli. The church is believed to be built on the site where legend says that Apostle Andrew (who traveled around the world preaching) stood, blessing the place and placing a cross.
The church had difficult times to be completed and in many cases it required private funds for reconstruction. Surprisingly it survived the Socialist times as it was transformed into a museum in 1968
The elegant interior of the church is of rococo style. The iconostasis is imposing and finely carved and the icons an outstanding piece of art and were created by a special group of artists
This church is the typical stop after the visit of st michael church .This green church was built by the order Of Russian Imperatrice Elizabeth. This is also very popular place to take pictures on the stairs. very near to the church Andreevsky Spusk is one of the oldest streets in Kiev.It s aome sort of Arbat street of moskow with many artists ,painters and souvenir shops with very nice cafes too.
All of the churches in Kiev had the most impressive architecture with their golden domes. St. Andrew’s Cathedral built in 1754 is actually in its original condition with no reconstruction of any kind. There is a nice pathway that goes all around the cathedral. When we went inside St. Andrew’s there were two people singing Ukrainian hymns. Many people had lit candles which were still glowing. It was nice to be able to light a candle as well. No photography is allowed inside the churches in Ukraine.
