An overnight train remains the best way to travel in Ukraine. A one-way second class (kupe) ticket (kupe is a sleeping compartment with four berths) to major Ukraine cities will cost you around $25. You save daytime for exploring a city. You definitely save money for a plane ticket will cost you at least 5 times more, plus you save on a hotel.
Objectively, there are several downsides as well. Not all trains have replaced their old cars yet. The old cars can be dusty, the bathrooms can be smelly, and that you are stuck with travel companions whoever they are (in Ukraine, there are no separate sleeping compartments for men and women). plus you can be unlucky (or lucky) to experience Ukrainian Train Hospitality .
With all these said, I still believe an overnight train is the best way to travel in Ukraine. After all, it’s also a part of culture experience that you would not want to miss.

Yes,it's really possible and: 1.)you will be waiting in a queue 2.)There's no guarantee a ticket you need will be available. At 20.00 Kiev time cash desks are closed.
It was difficult to find any option in Ukraine to book a ticket online.I nave found just one website.I'm not sure is it working.Would you check by yourself

Kiev has 2 airports, with Boryspil International (KBP) is the main airport.
I was there during the peek season in the summer. There were long queues everywhere. The worst bottleneck was the immigration. 30 minutes queue to get into the country.
But the worst was to get the exit stamp out of the country. I almost lost my flight from Kiev to Vienna because of the chaos. Many charter flights out of Kiev made the number of passengers too much to handle for the immigration control, where only 3 counters were in use. There were pushings and arguing among the passengers. Children were crying, and many passengers started to panic. The strongest ones got out first. The flights out of Kiev were delayed during these hours (23 July 2008).
The Ukrainian people are friendly, but this was a very bad way to show how to line up in a queue. Not to be cheeky, but this looked like a heritage from the former Soviet Union. Boryspil airport authority. You can do better than this!

The best way to get to Kiev is by air. You arrive to Boryspil International Airport, which is located about 34 km to the east of the city. It takes 45 minutes by taxi. The average one-way fare is 100 Hryvnias (20 USD). But you might have to pay more. I arrived there during the summer, and there were too few taxis for all the passengers. The drivers took advantage of this and asked for 50 USD. I managed to bargain down to 30 USD. Make sure to settle on a price before you get in the taxi.
There are also shuttle buses connecting Boryspil Airport and downtown Kiev. Travel time is more than one hour and the price is 10 Hryvnias (2 USD).

Trolley buses and buses in Kiev are not common for tourists because it is hard to understand the written signs. The language is in Cyrillic and is unreadable for other than people from CIS-countries, and you may drive in the wrong direction.

The Metro trains in Kiev are fast and reliable. The city has 46 stations in the city and 4 lines with the overall length of 60 km. The signs are well arranged with line maps, but the language is in Cyrillic and is not readable for other than people from Eastern-Europe. You have to ask the locals where to go or take the chace to find out yourselves.
I experienced the people friendly and helpsome. You have to buy the Metro ticket at the couter before entering the escalators. The ticket is cheap and valid for one hour.
Kiev Metro is special due to the deep stations, where some of them are 100 meters deep and could potentially be a bomb shelter. The escalators down to the trains are the longest I have taken. And some of them are operated manually by a man sitting at the end of the escalator.

Kyiv (Kiev), the capital of Ukraine is a city with more than 1500 year history. Now its metro system is a typical ex-Soviet three line system (total length 59.9 km) with all lines meeting in the city centre forming a triangle. Older stations in the city centre were built in the underground palace style similar to Moscow's metro. The network is entirely underground on the right bank of the river Dnipro (Dnieper) with two bridge-crossing of the river and one at-grade stretch of Line 1 on the left bank.
Apart from the Metro there are two fast tram lines which runs from Ploscha Peremohy (near Railway Station - Vokzal'na) to the western suburbs (Okruzhna Doroha, 9.1km, 1977). Although designed on the median of a motorway separated from most of level crossings, the line after around 20 years of exploitation requires capital reconstruction. Recently priority was given for upgrading the line to the modern LRT standards instead of replacement of the line by shallow underground metro. Works had to start in 2004 but were delayed. A second 5.2km fast tram line was built between 1993 and 2000. It runs from Prospekt Vatutina station to Vulytsia Miloslavskaya station in the district of Troeschyna on the north of left-bank part of the city. Now, due to low traffic, the line is served by a usual tram route with large intervals. Initially it was planned to reach Livoberezhna metro station. By the recent plans it will be upgraded to surface metro standards (Livoberezhna Line).

Inefficiency at the airport just gets worse and worse - be prepared for long waits at passport control and security on inward and outbound flight, even when there are not that many passengers. This is easily the most irritating airport I have ever been too - the fact that I use it regularly makes it even worse.
Facilities are actually ok, but prices are high
