Kyiv is quite safe place. It is noticed even in the internet. It's well lightened even at night, espceially the centre of the city. Of course, what else can tourist do :)) no need to observe the 'sleeping districts', they are quite the same everywhere. So don't be afraid. The only thing that should be taken into account, is pocket thiefs. In public transport of course. Just don't carry the money in the coat pockets where it's easy to get them. In principle people don't complain. Such things can happen everywhere, or almost everywhere Leave a Comment

When we were walking along Khreschatyk towards the right turning just before the independence monument a young ukraininan guy (aged about 20-2) with good English and German language skills tried to con us out of money, saying he had put the wrong type of petrol in his car. Be aware of these kind of cons, they can be very convincing._

If you read my homepage and Kyiv page you will know that I greatly admire the people of Ukraine and love their country. So I do this only to point out that nothing is ever perfect. Over the past several months since the election there have been several attacks by skinhead types on persons who don't "measure up" to their standards. Some of these beatings to include some Peace Corps volunteers were severe. The police are beginning to actively move against these groups. What can I say except be careful about who is around.
