 | Kiev Warnings or Dangers | Tips 61 - 68 of 68 | | Popular Warnings or Dangers | Other Warnings or Dangers Tips | All Tips (68) In the second week of October around 100 or so Ukrainian thugs began bottling some Scottish football fans playing pipes and drums. Women children and the elderly were present - unfortunately elderly Scots in particular were targeted by the Ukrainian cowards. Believe me, the picture above is very very mild for some of the assaults. Particularly aggrieving then that the Ukrainian police and embassy were uniinterested - police more interested in intimidating money from people, but don't take this personally, they do it with the locals too Leave a Comment

The problem of the thieves that searches you the pockets without shame is world. In Kyiv, numerous strips share the "market". But it is no more no less only elsewhere. It is the opportunity for me to give back "my tricks" 1 never sign conspicuous that you are tourists ! 2 some portfolio exists, or of the purse, provide a chain (5 to 10 Euros on any market). It is a good means to dissuade the thieves (the chain is visible). 3 not to put all his money in the same place, and to separate banking cards, species, checkbook... 4 in the public transportation, not to remain to the middle, but always to get back to a baffle (or seated). Not to wait in the front for the embankment (ever no one behind you). 5 Conspicuous steps of sign of wealth in the tourist places. 6 to avoid to remain immobile in a tail or in the street. On our second trip to Kyiv , We rented an appartement in Kyiv just up from Independance square it was excellent, modern spacious , secure and easy to get to. A fellow VT member told me they swapped him around on arrival so it pays to be Really really clear in your reservation , the price for this seemed we had to pay for 5 nights even though we only used 4 but well worth the extra 100USD. If your english please follow our example of cleaning up your bottled mess, its really nice the english lads reputation has not really impacted Kyiv yet. Leave a Comment

Toilet paper in Kiev is not the best and the our hotel didnt put much in the way of toilet paper in their guess rooms. Taking some nice andrex in your case would be a good idea. In Public toilets make sure buy paper before hand my friend had to use some local currency , how we laughed at him. This is him. Leave a Comment

We were stopped by the police at 4am walking back from a club pretty drunk. They wanted to know who we were and where we were going. We were given a choice of either being arrested or we pay approximately £10 ($20) each and they would turn a blind eye. You have to be impressed they spoke good English which is more than my Ukrainian and despite the intimidation and impending beating we were about to receive it was all very business like, how we laugh it off now. With each year there are more and more cars in Kiev. Although not everybody can afford to buy a new car, but the closeness to Germany and initiative of auto dealers form other countries helps Ukrainians to buy more used car, which just clog the city’s streets. At the same time it is quite dangerous to drive around, because 1) There are not such things as lines on a road that would divide the traffic. They were one day a long time ago, but with time they were so much wiped out, that now everybody goes as they wish. 2) There are no rules for some of drivers, especially those who drive fashionable and expensive cars. On several occasions I observed a car running on the opposite traffic side, to pass a traffic. 3) There were many cases when one of the side of car accident (doesn’t matter in fault or not) was bitten by the other (especially if the other possesses that beautiful Mercedes or BMW). As you know those cars are not cheap and their owners as a rule are very outraged if there is any damage. Moreover, they know that power is with them, because power is money and they have it. Don’t want to scary you much about Kiev’s road, but if you drive, drive safely. Leave a Comment

A lot has been said and written of late about air pollution resulting from traffic. The number of cars in Kiev has reached one million, which means every third resident of Kiev drives a car. Besides, there is cargo transport, transit transport and guests of Kiev coming to the capital by their own cars... Carbon dioxide concentration in the air exceeds all possible/existing norms by several times. Here are the places in the capital where the air cleanliness situation leaves much to be desired. Bessarabia Square and Obolon Abenue are the most polluted places as far as the air is concerned. Popudrenko Street (Chernihiv Metro station), Lesia Ukrainka Boulevard, Victory Avenue (Sviatoshin Metro station) and Skliarenko Street are among the worst ecological areas in Kiev. All this situation results from air pollution caused by traffic. What about industrial pollution?... Better not to think of it and enjoy one's stay instead! Leave a Comment
