    Trypillya civilization has been discovered by the archaeologist Vikentiy Khvoika in 1897. it has flourished on the territory of Ukraine between 7,500-4,750 BC. Some scientists, including Khvoika, believed that Trypillians were ancestors of all Slavs, others that they there migratory Arrata tribes.

    Trypillians settled along rivers, including the Dnipro midstream. They were traditional tribal agrarian culture. The Trypillia people, in addition to farming and animal breeding, knew metalworking, weaving and pottery. The civilization has produced a complicated symbol language, which was reflected on their pottery.

    The similar artifacts have been discovered in Cucuteni in Moldova and Rumania, so the culture is often called Cucuteni-Trypillia culture after the towns where finds were first excavated.

  • Directions: 80 km south of Kyiv (Obukhiv-Kaniv direction). you can get their by taxi or a mini-bus (marshrutka). a mini bus (Kiev-Kaniv, or Kiev-Rzhyschiv) goes through Rzhyschiv. the bus station is located on Podil, across from the Market (Zhytniy Rynok).

    Museum of Trypillian Civilisation, Trypillia

  • The Trypillya Archeology Museum hosts Trypillian civilization artifacts (statuettes, ceramics, day-to-day agrarian tools, etc. ) as well as a small exhibit dedicated to Vincentiy Khvoika, the archeologist who had made this discovery in 1897.

    the museum is located to the left of the main street. you will recognize it by its roof, which is decorated with enlarged (1.5 m ) replicas of Trypillya feminine figurines.

    Trypillia Folk Festival

  • The Rzhyschiv Wreath is the yearly folk and architecture festival dedicated on the Trypillia civilization. it takes place in the first week of July, around Ivana Kupala Day (July 7).
