There are potholes and it does rain, so you will step in a puddle or two during your visit. Wear sensible clothing, layerable. Depending on the time of year, it does cool down at night. Freezing temperatures at night thru April are not uncommon. "Cargo" style pants are very practicle. You can keep your plane tickets, passport, money, etc., in different pockets. If you plan on dining at some of the nicer restaurants, take some nice clothes, casual is OK, a jacket for men would be good. If your dating a girl from there dress better than average! Most Ukrainians dress up when going out to dinner. Don't wear shorts and a tank top! It's rude. Note: Black is the standard color for men there. Have a pair of black/navy/charcoal slacks.
Basic items are easily purchased in the stores there. Same as here. Don't over load yourself with large cans of shaving cream,shampoo, toilet paper, etc., buy the small travel items, then purchase additional items when you arrive. It does get windy and dusty there at times, if you wear contacts, take a extra pair and cleanser for your contacts. Medical prescriptions, get a "scrip" from your doctor, then before you leave translate the extra "scrip" into Russian for safety just in case. Latin is Latin, but they need to be able to read it. Type it out. If you have a serious medical condition, you know best what you need, but translate your condition into Russian in case of an emergency. And of course buy medical insurance. There is a private clinic in Luhansk.
If you have a Kodak printer dock take plenty of printing paper with the color cartridges. There are NONE in Luhansk. If you have another brand portable printer I would advise getting extra paper and cartridges, as there may not be any available in Luhansk. A extra memory chip is advised. Batteries are plentiful and in every store.
