    Visit Pervomayka

    Pervomayka district in Krasnodon

My local friend took me to Pervomayka (May Day Village) to visit the Russian Cossacks museum and to meet the Russian Don Cossacks themselves.
We met Colonel Anatoly who is the head of local Don Cossacks organization called Stanitsa Sorokinskaya Company.
The Russian Don Cossacks do not recognize the Soviet name of the city and prefer to call it Stanitsa Sorokinskaya by its old name.
You can get here by trolleybus #4 or by buses 111, 114, 141.
School #6 is at the end stop.
There is a store at the end bus stop too.
You can see a wonderful panorama of the nearby hills from this place.

    Russian Cossacks museum, Krasnodon

This museum occupies an old Russian Cossacks' house at 5 Leningrad Street in Pervomayka.
The museum contains a lot of exhibits donated by Cossack families and found by Cossack community members.
The Russian flag flies proudly at the entrance to the museum.
The museum shares the same building with the Headquarters of the Russian Cossacks of Sorokino Company of Gundorovka regiment of the Great Don Cossacks Army.

    The Great Ancient Wall

The Great Ancient Wall, outskirts of Krasnodon
    4 more images

One day a friend of mine who lives in Krasnodon and likes history invited me to come to his city to see the Great Ancient Wall. The Wall is located on the eastern outskirts of Krasnodon in the settlement called Pervomayka ("May Day Village").
You can get by bus 141, 111 and trolleybus 4 from downtown Krasnodon.
The Wall is located right near the city cemetery.
I dedicated one day to it and was pleased.
Our guess is the wall should be over a thousand years old. We are standing up the hill after climbing the stones.
Perhaps there was a city on the hill and a huge fence around it.
The view from the hill fenced with stones is great! You can see everything dozens of miles around.
There were no archeologists there, but I'm sure if they arrived there and began working, they would find some interesting artifacts.
    What was it?
A nomadic tribe's fort or settlement? No answer.
There is one answer already. A well-known specialist in stones arrived here and made his examination. His report reads, "The wall is man-made and needs protection!"
In some parts the stones are missing already. I imagine so: so many centuries have passed!
    The panorama was marvelous.
You could stand there for hours wondering how men could choose such a nice place for their dwelling or fort.

You can pay a visit to Lukomorye Armenian cafe on the southern outskirts and see the beautiful unique birds there.
You can see a golden pheasant and other birds (sorry, don't know their names).

    The Blue Rock

    Standing on the Blue Rock
    4 more images

What would you expect if a friend of yours was to show you "the Blue Rock"?
Well, one day my friend Vladimir from Krasnodon invited us to his native village where he used to spend lots of time at the Blue Rock in his childhood.
The rock is located at the twisting of the River Velyka Kamyanka ("The Great Stone River") outside the village of Verkheshevyryovka located about two miles south of the city.
The Russian Cossacks called it so and nobody knows why.
Personally I saw nothing blue about it, just a simple rock, maybe ten meters high or more.
The river is great: shallow and with pleasant cold water.
The bottom was not covered with silt, but with little stones.
We walked in the river to approach the stratified stones on its bank. The deepest point in the river should be about two meters.
This is where Cossacks liked to bathe and to learn swimming.
There is an "island" on the opposite shore: a piece of land formed by the twisting of the river.
This "island", as Vladimir explained, is a place where boys take their girlfriends to enjoy the nature and the company.
