Like in many other towns and cities of the former Soviet Union, there are several war memorials in Luhansk. One of them is located in Ostraya Mogila (Sharp Mould) forest park on the southern outskirts of the city, at the first circle on your way from the airport. This is the monument to the liberators of the city. T-34 tank standing on the pedestal is said to be the first one that entered the city during the battle for its liberation on February 14, 1943. The tank's number is 237. You can see Guards badge that was conferred to the most outstanding regiments and divisions during the war. There is an inscripton on the tank, For our Soviet Motherland! That was a war time slogan of the Soviet people during the war. The inscription on the pedestal reads,To the heroic Soviet tankmen who defeated German fascist invaders and Japanese imperialists during the years of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The inscription on the memorial plaque on Picture 3 reads, "T-34 tank named after Lieutenant Ivan Kissenko was manufactures at Sormovo factory in 1944 #4080297 and took part in battles as a part of the 4th Guards Stalingrad mechanized corps awarded with the Red Banner, Suvorov Order and Kutuzov Order." Welcome to the National Bank! ( Luhansk, Ukraine) by hunterV, 4 more photos This is a special subject to see and discuss. If you look attentively at the doors you pass on your way, you will see the majority of them are different and even unique: century-old doors and modern ones. This doors leads you into the National Bank of Ukraine, a building located in Soviet Street downtown. My friend and I walked past it and couldn't resist the temptation of taking a picture of it. This is the work of modern artists. You can imagine what strong hands the bank employees must have when they have to open it every day! It's huge and massive!Picture 2 Fine Arts Museum Another outstanding entrance door of Luhansk is the entrance door to the Fine Arts Museum in Post Street. The museum is located in the Old Town nest to Lenin machine-building factory, down from Shevchenko Street. The museum is called Artyom Fine Arts Museum after Artyom who used to live in Luhansk in 1919-1920 when he was the Prime Minister of the Bolshevik Ukrainian Republic created by Moscow on the Communist-occupied territories of Eastern and Southern Ukraine. Russian pancakes have always been very popular with us here and not only on holidays. They became a part of our everyday life when such kiosks were introduced a couple of years ago. They offer hot pancakes with different stuffing: meat, potatoes, friut, boiled condensed milk, etc. and juice to it. The prices are reasonable (around $1 or $2) and it's a good place to have a bite when shopping or hurrying somewhere further downtown...The pancake also offer pancake menu that will provide you with a good snack. This kiosk is called Lepota and it located next to the savings bank across near Rossiya department store. Lepota is an old Russian word that means an interjection, something like Splendid! There are several war memorials in Luhansk, among them this one in Pobeda (Victory) public garden in October District. The monument commemorates the soldiers of the 569th mortar regiment that was formed on that place and went to the front in April 1942 and went through all ordeals finishing its war movement in Prague. You can also see military decorations at the foot of the monument. You might be interested to read special rules for visiting Orthodox churches before going there. I have discovered these rules recently myself and decided to translate them for you, dear fellow travelers, to avoid any misunderstanding when you set out to visit an Orthodox church.Rules of Behavior in the Temple- Come to the temple in good time for the beginning of the divine service; - Enter the temple quietly and with reverence as to the God’s House, the mysterious abode of the Heavenly King; - Ladies can only enter the temple modestly dressed and with a covered head; - Ladies cannot enter the temple in man’s clothes, that is, in pants; - Before entering the temple ladies should wipe the lipstick. It is inadmissible to kiss sacred things with lipstick put on lips; - According to the ancient custom men should stand in the right-hand part of the temple (opposite the Savior’s icon) and the ladies – in its left-hand part (opposite of the icon of the Mother of God); - It is not allowed to walk about the temple and to light candles during: · entering with a censer and reading the Gospel ; · singing “Our Father” “Cherubs’ Song”, “Mother of God”; - It is inadmissible to kiss icons, to purchase things at the icons’ shop, to light candles and to submit requiem notes during the service. It should be done before or after the service in order to keep the order during the service; - You cannot leave the temple before the end of the divine service without urgency for it is disrespect and a sin before God.
