A stroll in the village park
4 more images

Why not take a stroll in the village park?
It is located behind the village club.
The old Soviet times entrance sign is still there.
It can be seen from the main street.
The inscription above the old entrance sign reads, Park of Culture and Rest.
This is how all the Soviet parks were called.
There is a common grave of soldiers who died in the battles for the liberation of Novoastrakhan in January 1943.

The village church
4 more images

The local church is the first thing you see on your right when you enter this village.
It is called Church of the Protecting Veil of the Most Holy Mother of God.
The church is very old. You can see it at once by the entrance gate and the special architectural forms here.
It is also very nice inside. Father Peter, the church dean, blessed me to take some pictures there.
The parish celebrates their Feast Day on October 14.
This is when you can see almost all the parishioners here.
The church is being refurbished now and the work should be completed by October 14.

The village school
4 more images

Like in many other villages, the local lore museum is in the secondary school here.
It is in the hall of the second floor near the computer science room.
You can see old artefacts of the village life carefully collected and restored by the school students: handicrafts, agricultural tools and pictures.
There are embroidered pictures on the walls. They were made by school students themselves for the village museum.
Also, you can read the posters about the village history and about its present.
A special exhibition is devoted to the famous village sponsor - Vladimir Poddubny, a school graduate, Class 1972, who is now a Russian Cossacks' Army general. He sponsored the renovation of the school and its classrooms like nobody else. Now the school boasts best classrooms and the best auditorium in the entire Kraminna County, which makes this school the base for all kinds of activities on the county level: teachers' seminars, meetings and exhibitions.

Old polyclinic building in Lenin Street
4 more images

Walking along the main street, you can see a mixture of houses of different epoches and styles.
The first picture is the building of the former polyclinic. It looks like a very old house and I think it could have been the HQ of the Russian army regiment in 1825 when the village was called Novoastrakhan.
Regrettably nobody can confirm or reject that idea, but I tend to think that building dates back to 1825.
I saw another interesting house with a date: 1953. It is the only house I have seen that has a date on it.
I saw another interesting building in Lenin Street - Rubizhne Gas Administration office. It looks like an old Russian house.

The church interior
4 more images

This church has a spacious hall with a lot of murals and icons.
You can enter the church and admire its rich decor.
Do not forget to ask Father Peter or his wife Lyubov for his/her blessing if you intend to take pictures or make a video coverage.
Be prepared to explain to him why you need those pictures or videos.
A donation to the church would be welcomed!

War memorial near the village club
4 more images

There are three war memorials in the village.
They are dedicated to the soldiers and officers who fell in the battles for liberation of their Motherland in 1941-1945.
The biggest one is located in the square in front of the village club. It contains the names of the villagers who did not come back from the fronts. You can see memorial plaques with their names.
The next one is nearby in the village park on the common grave of soldiers.
Another one is to the left of the exit from the village, at the beginning of Lenin Street and is located right in the field. It can be seen from the main street, though.
