Many concerts and gala meetings take place at the City Leisure Center - a gem of the Soviet architecture, a much better and more modern building and very well taken care of unlike that of Luhansk.
The leisure center is officially called Gorky Palace of Culture.
I remember we were taken to this conference center during my first stay in the city when I was there with a group of German folk dancers.
There is also a movie theater in this building. It is called Idyll.
There is a private TV studio on the third floor. It is called Nika TV.
Miss Rovenki beauty contests became a tradition in the city.
It is held every fall at the conference center.
The show usually attracts lots of paticipants, spectators and mass media.
A lot of unusual titles are offered to the young participants during that show:
The First Vice Miss Rovenki
The Second Vice Miss Rovenki
Model of the Year
Miss of Spectators’ Liking
Miss Ukrainian Beauty
Miss Seductive Legs
The coalminers labor has always been revered here.
Rovenki-Antratsit as the biggest industrial corporation of the city employs about 22 thousand workers.
There are several monuments to coalminers in the city.
You can read about their work every day in the city newspapers or learn news from the local radio and TV.
Also, we saw the best coalminers poster in the city conference center called Gorky Palace of Culture.
Nika TV is the name of the local privart TV studio.
Its HQ is on the third floor of the city conference center.
We were privileged to be there and to give an interview during our stay there. I was an interpreter of the Austrian delegation.
The interview was shown on local TV on the same day. Thus, on the next day when we visited other families of veterans, everybody had already known about the visit. The locals do not miss a single program of the local TV.
The interview was broadcats all over Luhansk region afterwards, which led to rumors that I had begun working for mass media... I had to explain to my friends it was only a very rare interview and I was only invited as an interpreter.
Like in many other towns and cities in the south of Luhansk region, many people in this city use local stratified stone nicknamed "savage stone" here. They use it for building fences and entire houses here.
