 | Rubizhne General Tips | Tips 1 - 9 of 9 | | When I grew up, I did not know the city had its own coat-of-arms. Only recently I came across the image of the city's coat-of-arms. Here's the explanation of the coat-of-arms.Four white stripes symbolize the history of the foundation of the city. The place for the settlement was chosen on the bank of the Seversky Donets between rivers The Krasna and the Borova. The lower white stripe is a symbol of a great number of lakes surrounding Rubizhne: Lake Kateryna, Lake Hlyboke, Lake Lopushne, Lake Lenyove, Lake Bile, lake Kruhle and others. The green stripes symbolize century-old trees and green forests that used to grow here in old times. They were cut down during the construction of the town. The pine-tree on the yellow field symbolizes a great human deed – the woods that were planted on the sand soil surrounding the town, thus turning the desert into a green city. The pine-tree is the most widespread tree on the outskirts of Rubizhne. It is considered to be lungs of the city. The rainbow symbolizes the first enterprises of the town that gave it life. It is also a symbol of the chemical industry – the most developed brunch of industry in the city. Also, it is a symbol of the dynamic development of the city; it is a bridge into the future. The silver city crown indicates the city status of Rubizhne and the blossom of thin-leaf peony (Paeonia tenuifolia L.) above the shield is a plant symbol of Luhansk region of which Rubizhne is a part.

Having a pint at Bee bar round the corner from our apartment
Of course staying at my parents every other month on weekends. They are retired already, but do not look old and are full of energy working at their datcha and gathering in the harvest. They were happy about the rich harvest of apples that they got of their several apple-trees. Leave a Comment

There are a lot of multi-storey apartment houses in Rubizhne, the highest (and the only) one consisting of 14 floors. It is in Lenin Street. My parents still live at 14B Mendeleyev Street. They were extremely happy to move to this apartment house in February 1962. It is a typical five-storey apartment house of Khrushchev era. Such apartments are called here Khrushchovka. City Conference Center is officially called Kirov Palace of Culture. There are two halls, one of them serving as a movie theater and another one is a big concert hall. There are also several groups where amateur actors, artists and dancers come and study. Rubizhne is known for its People’s Musical Comedy Theater that stages operas and plays here in the Big Hall and is the only one of its kind in the entire Luhansk region.
