    Brotherhood Monument

    Brotherhood Monument, Slavyanoserbsk
    4 more images

This impressive monument was dedicated in 2003 when the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the Serb settlement of the district was observed.
    You can see three figures:
a Ukrainian Cossack with a sabre,
    a Serb Hussar
and a Russian Cossack.I have recently found out what I didn't know before. The word Hussar is from the Hungarian language. It is translated as twenty.
In old times a Hungarian feudal landlord had to send one serf out of his twenty serfs to the military service. He had to provide him with a uniform. Thus the poor guy who was sent to the army was called a twenty guy, that is A Hussar. The inscription below the figures is in three languages: Ukrainian, Russian and Serbian (which is rather rare in Ukraine).
It reads,There are no ties more sacred
    than those of brothers.

    Lenin Monument

    Lenin Monument, Slavyanoserbsk, Luhansk region
    4 more images

When you approach the building of the State District Administration, you will see this monument to Lenin opposite it.
The monument is in a very good state and is also very special for Lenin's gesture is not typical: the way he held out his hand. It is a very dynamic monument I would say - thanks to the gesture.
Thus the monument differs greatly from many other Lenin monuments I have seen. Those monuments are more static, as it were.
Lenin monument is in front of the Glory Park with the Eternal Flame to commemorate the heroes of the Second World War that we call Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The first thing you see when you arrive to the town center is the State District Administration building with Lenin monument and Eternal Flame opposite it.
The Town Council is a building typical for the Soviet times, rather spacious and with several departments.

    Local Lore Museum

History exhibition at the local lore museum
    4 more images

Local lore museum dedicated in 1992 has several exhibitions describing the history and the present of the district,
The most ancient exhibits date back to the mesolithic era (9000 BC).
There are also several unique exhibits here, beautiful dioramas about the nature of the district.
I was lucky to have a guided tour of the museum. The museum director Ms.Tamilla Medelyan took me around the museum and allowed me to take some pictures for Virtual Tourist.
She said you could contact her before coming here:Tamilla Medelyan
    Apt. 19, 51 Gorky Street
    Slavyanoserbsk 93700
Ukraineor call her at +38 06473 9 32 94The local lore museum contains an exhibition about the popular uprising of 1707-1709 under the leadership of
Condratiy Bulavin (1660-1708), a Cossack general,
who lived in the village of Trekhizbenka in this district.
That was an antifeudal uprising of poor peasants and Cossacks in the eastern Ukraine and the Volga Valley.
The czarist army of Prince Dolgoruky defeated the rebels in 1708. The museum nature exhibition is also impressive: it tells you about the animals living in the district.
You can see this wonderful diorama representing a piece of the district's area. You can also see this mural in the Children's Leisure Center downtown.
It depicts the map of the district with its emblems.
The history is very much treasured here.
There is correspondence with the people in Novy Sad, Serbia, who also researched on the history of the Serb lands abroad.

This huge War Memorial located at the motorway Luhansk-Lissichansk at the entrance to the town (4 km from its center) has become a kind of the visiting card of the town.
It is dedicated to the heroic deed of Political Commissar Yeryomenko who led the soldiers into the battle at the decisive moment and fell in the battle in 1942. His heroic deed soon became known all over the Soviet Union.
The monument was dedicated in 1980 and is known as Politruk Monument, "politruk" being "Political Commissar" (propaganda officer).
This is the only monument to the political commissars in the former Soviet Union countries.
