Trip to Zhovkva
  • Tip Rating:
  • The quaint town of Zhovkva is a pleasant daytrip from Lviv. It is located about 30 km north of Lviv and is home to about 13.500 people.

Due to its rich and interesting history which dates back to the 14th century, the town has a large number of architectural interesting buildings.

Among them are not only several churches, but also a large market square, an ancient castle and an old synagogue.

    How to get to Zhovkva?

We went to Zhovkva by minibus (marshrutka). In Lviv they leave from the bus station no. 2 at
Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street, just north of the
    city centre.

Nevertheless, we took a minibus from Chornovola Prospekt just in front of the Jewish Ghetto Memorial. The fare was 3 UAH and the journey took about 35 minutes.

    Directions:
The Jewish Ghetto Memorial is situated in the area of the former Jewish Ghetto. It can be found at the beginning of Chornovola Prospekt just behind the railway bridge.

    Mind the holes!
  • Tip Rating:
  • During a journey to Lviv you should really care about your vehicle. Only motorways are prepared to safe ride by standard (not armored or jeep ;) cars. Just mind the holes and trackways. If you think of taking your favourite Jag's, Aston Martin, Daimler or Viper to Lviv, better leave those babes sefe and untouched at home.

    Parks of Lviv (Lwow)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Stryisky Park
    (Stryiska St., Parkova St. )

Stryisky Park was founded in 1887 by Arnold Rohring. Rohring was a Inspector of the Lwow's verdancy. The most beautiful and exotic park range over 58 ha. Stryiski Park was the beloved place of lovers of the Polish Lwow and nothing changed when Lwow became Lviv. That park is still a magic place with swans and also tropical plants in green house. There are almost 200 species of trees and plants. You can also admire the monument of the Polish insurgent Jan Kilinski (1760-1819). There was a beautiful Palace of Arts in Stryisky park before the II WW, now there is a swimming-pool.

    Znesinnya Park (Shevchenko Hai)

Znesinnya Park range over 58 ha and is situated near Lychakivska and M. Kryvonosa St. Park was founded on the place of former Kajzerwald and Lonszanowka. Splendid views and paths guarantee. It's hard to find out if park is the part of a Museum Park of Folk Architecture and Crafts (Exhibits of the Huculs culture-read more ***http://www.iabsi.com/gen/under) or the museum is a part of the Znesinnya Park. There is also the Orthodox church (18th century) that was carried over from the Krivky village.

    Charming staircase
  • Tip Rating:
  • It's just great opportunity to go off the streets of Lviv and try to find glamorous and calmly (during day) staircases that remeber the old times of the kingdom of secession or the footsteps of the past (good) times.

After dark do not go inside even if you lost your cell phone, half of family jewellery or just curious...belive me, just don't.Life is the precioust.

    Stone house with woman's head
  • Tip Rating:
  • The house with woman's head looks very interesting. In Lviv it is neccesary to have your head up all the time when walking because you may miss some beautiful houses. This house is located in Brulliova Street (near Szaszkiewicza Square).

Lychakivsky Cemetery (built in 1786, earlier than Pere-Lachaise in Paris). The Young Eagles Cemetery containing the graves of Poles killed during the Polish-Ukrainian war of 1918-1919.

For Poles it 's a 'Must see activity"

Cemetery of The Young Eagles (Polish kids that fought during 1918-1919 war) was few years ago a target of attack of Ukrainian nationalists from the UNA-UNSO organization (they smashed a tablet on the monument to the Young Eagles). For the both nations that cemetery (partialy devastated by soviet tanks and bullets ..... after II WW) is a very delicate matter.

You should also know that The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw contains the Young Eagle's remains from this cemetery.

You will be astonished of exquisite art of monuments and graves. Such artist as Hartman Witwer, Anton, Jan and Leopold Schmiser, Abel Maria Perier, Cyprian Godebski, Julian Markowski, Tadeusz Boracz, Ignacy Drexler, Leonard Marconi and Kazimierz Ostrowski built the most beautiful monuments of Lychakivsky Necropolia.
