 | Lviv Packing Lists | Tips 1 - 10 of 11 | | Popular Packing Lists | Miscellaneous Packing Lists Tips | All Tips (11) The standards of toilets in the Ukraine vary a lot. If you are lucky you might find clean and comfortable public toilets in bigger cities like Kiev or Lviv. But even here squat toilets can be seen quite often, also in restaurants or hotels. Just be prepared that toilet paper for some reasons is only provided in very limited quantities, if at all. The provided paper is often more of the rough kind like the one shown on my photo. So if your bottom prefers fluffy paper, you should bring your own paper and always be prepared to have some toilet paper with you. Leave a Comment

Like many other countries in Eastern Europe, the Ukraine is a rapidly developing country. Unfortunately, it is often difficult to find a Tourist Information Office or just a free map, therefore an up to date guide book for independent travellers is highly recommended. On our first trip in 2007 we used the Bradt Travel Guide - Ukraine which covers all sorts of information from historical background and descriptions of the sights to practical information about public transportation, accomodation and restaurants. In 2008 we used the new German travel guide Reise Know-How - Ukraine, der Westen which was just translated from the Polish version. Unfortunately it is not available in English. Don't forget your umbrella to Lviv. I got advice about some days in advance of my trips. One day it was cloudy but without rain but next day it was drizzling. But I heard that the city is one of the leaders in amount of raining in Ukraine Leave a Comment

Some guide books advise to take a sleeping bag, if you are going to stay in cheap Ukrainian hotels, as they provide just a blanet, not a quilt and in the rooms can be quite cold in the night. In the summer you won't need it for sure, but maybe during the winter it's resonable to take one.

Bring toilet roll and some extra pocket tissues. On trains, there will almost certainly be none! Also might be an idea to carry some soap, there are sinks but no soap. Can be annoying on long trips without such comforts. Leave a Comment
