    There are several small supermarkets in the center of Ternopil. Some shops aren't really self-service supermarkets but the old Soviet style shops with lots of counter shops. If you want to try such a shop then you will find one opposite the Church of Resurrection in vul. Ruska.

    The shop assistants were very friendly when we bought some bananas, chocolates, drinks, hygiene products. If you don't speak any Ukrainian/Russian, then just name the product you want to buy and point to it.

    BTW, unsliced bread can be bought in halves if the whole one is too much for you.
