Bus is another quite convenient way to get around Ukraine. Such companies as "AVTO LUX"(www.autolux.com.ua), "GUNSEL"(www.gunsel.com.ua), "SHERIF TOUR" (www.sherif.com.ua) can offer you a comfortable bus ride. Their busses are not bad, mostly with a TV and decent seats. You can also take regular buses in any city/town of Ukraine. "Bus station" will be "AVTO-VOKZAL" in Ukrainian. Sometimes they are not so comfortable as you can expect, but they will definitely bring you to the place you need. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

When in Kyiv, there are a number of modes of transportation. I recommend that a native to the city do the driving, as it is quite chaotic. When waiting for the bus, stand in line and when the bus arrives, get ready to move and move quickly. Please will push past you as quick as they can. It is like being a sardine, people are pressed up against you in the line up or on the bus. In the Metro, be prepared to move quickly again. As soon as the metro starts to slow down, move to the entrance and move/push quickly on to the metro. Then HANG ON!!!! The doors will shut quickly and not give you a moments notice The taxis are great. We used them to go to the gravesite, to the airport and to the bus depot. Tipping is graciously accepted Theme: Bus

OK, I know I'm a control freak and that being driven is not my idea of a fun thing to do. I know I learned how to drive in Northern Virginia and can get around in snow and icy weather with little trouble. I know that I was looking forward to being driven around through snow and ice in a foreign land by a stranger with about as much excitement as if i were having all my teeth pulled without anesthetic! What I didn't know was that the very best part of my trip through Ukraine was going to be a taxi ride! The driver was from "somewhere else, you can't pronounce it" and he smoked a huge cigar non-stop during the ride to the hotel. BUT, he was very informative about Kiev and pointed out many, many places on the way to the hotel, he loaded my luggage for me, and unloaded it as well. He drove carefully and asked several times if I was "ok". We had negotiated a fare before I got in the taxi, and when we arrived he said "there's no traffic, you paid me too much" and gave me back two dollars! I tried to have him keep it as a tip and he said, "no. You let me practice my English and didn't get fussy". What a nice guy! Don't be afraid to utilize the cabs in Kiev. You may meet up with Egan (?) the taxi driver! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

It is very easy to move in Kiev. I usually moved by metro (it stops to work after midnight if my memoirs are exact) and by private taxi. Cost of taxi can be really cheaper (according with european ones) but I recommend to contract price before to go in (much better is to have an ukrainian friend and let him/her talk, so he will believe that you are ukrainian too). Usually at night taxis are more expensive. But never pay more than 30 Grivnas!!! Leave a Comment Theme: Other
